Out-of-left-field hypothesis: Kind-of-old guys outperforming FIP due to BABIP is partially due to veteran pitchers getting friendly hit/error rulings by scorekeepers. It's already established that veteran pitchers get friendlier calls from umpires on called pitches, why wouldn't they also be getting breaks from the official scorers?
