September 4, 2015 Weekly WrapSeptember 4, 2015
With the minor-league season winding down, this will be our last weekly wrap of the season. There's less action, though still some notable movement as players get put in position to experience playoff action. On The Shelf The Brewers tabbed Nathan Kirby (Eyewitness Account) with the 40th-overall pick in the draft, and now he is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery, which could explain his slide from potential top-10 pick to out of the first round. Congrats on Your New Job While Lewis Brinson (Rangers, Eyewitness Account) didn't get to join many of his fellow high-end prospects in Double-A until after the Cole Hamels trade opened up some room, he didn't spend too much time in Frisco once he arrived. He's been promoted to Triple-A Round Rock after a mere 28 games, though it should be noted he slashed .291/.328/.545 in those games. Drew Robinson and Alex Burg joined him on the trip from Frisco to Round Rock. The Pirates are giving Austin Meadows (Eyewitness Account) a taste of Double-A before the season ends. He's likely to open 2016 there. Speaking of Julio Urias, 17-year-old Anderson Espinoza (Red Sox, Ten Pack) was promoted to Low-A Greenville this week. Espinoza has garnered plenty of attention for his dynamic fastball and polish at such a young age. There's a good chance he's on a bunch of prospect lists this offseason.
