August 14, 2015 Weekly WrapAugust 14, 2015
This week's wrap is relatively light, as the heavy wave of promotions is behind us. We did get a couple of young prospects back from the disabled list, as well as more news on 2015 first rounders.
On The ShelfUp-and-comer Barry Zito was placed on the disabled list for Triple-A Nashville. He's had an okay season thus far, but the projectable lefty just hasn't developed the zip on his fastball that many expected.
Congrats on Your New JobCleveland first baseman Nellie Rodriguez will be shaking his tailfeather in Double-A Akron from now on.
Kevin Newman, the Pirates' first round pick in the 2015 draft, was promoted to Low-A West Virginia following a fairly weak statistical performance in short-season ball. Thought to be out of prospects altogether, the Blue Jays are still proving to have more in the pipeline, though they did demote shortstop Richard Urena (Ten Pack) from High-A Dunedin to Low-A Lansing. Acquired in the deal that sent Jeremy Hellickson west, Justin Williams has performed admirably for a 19-year-old in full-season ball. The Rays rewarded his progress with a promotion to High-A Charlotte. Professional tall person Tayron Guerrero (Eyewitness Account) was promoted, as the Padres sent him to Triple-A El Paso.
Back in ActionAlex Jackson (Eyewitness Account) returned to the Everett AquaSox lineup, his first appearance there since June 15th.
The ever-young Michael De Leon (Spring Training Notebook) was activated from the disabled list at Double-A Frisco.
