Many of our authors make a habit of speaking to scouts and other talent evaluators in order to bring you the best baseball information available. Not all of the tidbits gleaned from those conversations make it into our articles, but we don't want them to go to waste. Instead, we'll be collecting them in a regular feature called "What Scouts Are Saying," which will be open to participation from the entire BP staff.  Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk: Randal Grichuk is a better than the media gives him credit for. Watch, he's going to be a key member of the Cardinals moving forward.
 Royals LHP Sean Manaea: Sean Manaea has a solid, three pitch arsenal. The fastball moves a bunch and has heavy action. Change and slider are both effective. I worry about the lack of consistency from inning to inning, but I like his arm.
 Yankees SS Jorge Mateo: Jorge Mateo is a good player, and has top of the charts speed, but I’m not sure if he’s going to be able to stick in the infield. The hands aren’t great, nor are the actions. I think he ends up a center fielder. He has a little more pop than he’s showing right now though, which will help.
 Blue Jays LHP Ryan Borucki: Ryan Borucki can pitch. He adds and subtracts on his fastball and curve and he gets a lot of movement on everything. He really competes. I’d take him on my team.
 Tigers RHP Joe Jimenez: I saw Joe Jimenez once early in the year, at the Futures Game, then again just the other day, and I'm on board. If he can maintain his focus and composure, the stuff is just fantastic. With the movement he has on his fastball, along with the velo, and a slider that I like more every time I see him, he's going to have a quick trip from where he is now to the big leagues.
 Astros SS Alex Bregman: I know the draft position and what I'm supposed to see when Alex Bregman arrives in pro ball, and even with lofty expectations like that, he's exceeding them early on; at least for me. This kid is a player with good big league tools and he's going to get there quickly.

So, Randall Grichuk or Stephen Piscotty? Grichuk is a high draft pick who has not yet produced to initial expectation. Piscotty, just having been called up, is at the peak of his hype. Which is the better acquisition?
He's a starting CF at 23 with a .322 TAv. What was the initial expectation?
Well, a few months is a flash of the hope. Chris Davis eventually had a monster season, which has not replicated. The question is whether Grichuk's performance is a flash or not. Obviously, Piscotty would already have been in the big leagues if the Cardinals, or anyone else, to have been exceeding Grichuk's current performance all along.
