Mentioned this in the TA for Clayton Richard... but I wonder if the appearance of treating him well will help the Pirates with future minor league FAs down the road. Or if there are other intangible considerations that come into play.
That said, my favorite theory is that the Pirates thought he would be bad for the Cubs.
