September 2, 2014 Interleague ReportWeek 23
Please note that in the “DH” column, the player listed is the player that has been added or removed from the lineup, not necessarily the player in the DH slot. For example, if the Phillies move Domonic Brown to DH and put Tony Gwynn Jr. in the OF, then I will list Gwynn Jr. in the “DH” column because he is the player who is gaining at-bats. Last Week AL at NL: None NL at AL:
Jordany Valdespin started at DH against the righty and Reed Johnson started at DH against the lefties. Nate Schierholtz started against the righties. Jose Lobaton started at catcher against the lefty with Wilson Ramos moving to DH. This Week AL at NL: None NL at AL:
I would expect Devin Mesoraco to get a semi-rest at DH instead of his usual full rest on the bench. For the other two games, I would imagine that Chris Heisey and Jack Hannahan each get a start. With Michael Morse moving to first base and Gregor Blanco starting against both righties and lefties, I think that we see Andrew Susac catch this series with Buster Posey and Morse sharing first base and DH duties. If Posey does get a game behind the plate, I imagine it would be against the righty, and that Travis Ishikawa or Adam Duvall would get a start. Next Week AL at NL: None NL at AL:
Assuming a starting outfield of Jorge Soler, Arismendy Alcantara, and the Chris Coghlan/Matt Szczur platoon, and also assuming that Anthony Rizzo is healthy, my guess is that Logan Watkins gets the extra starts against the righties and that Chris Valaika gets the extra start against the lefty. Ryan Doumit and Emilio Bonifacio will most likely pick up extra starts due to interleague play. My guess is that Doumit starts against the lefty and Bonifacio starts against the righties.
