Please note that in the “DH” column, the player listed is the player that has been added or removed from the lineup, not necessarily the player in the DH slot. For example, if the Phillies move Dominic Brown to DH and put Tony Gwynn Jr. in the OF, then I will list Gwynn Jr. in the “DH” column because he is the player that is gaining at bats.

Nick Castellanos was the odd man out. Victor Martinez started all three games at first base and Miguel Cabrera did so at third base. Cabrera has now played in seven games (five starts) at third base.

Matt Joyce moved from DH to the outfield and Brandon Guyer sat on the bench.

Mathis/Johnson/Valdespin

The Mets platooned Eric Campbell and Bobby Abreu in the three-game set against at Seattle.

Last week, “I am not really sure how the Marlins will utilize the DH.” I was correct in knowing my own ignorance. That said, the Marlins gave two regulars, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Giancarlo Stanton, semi-rests at DH. Jeff Mathis got the start at catcher against the righty, and Reed Johnson and Jordany Valdespin each got a start in right field.

Stubbs/Barnes

In previous matchups, the Brewers have started Lyle Overbay at DH against righties and Jonathan Lucroy at DH with Martin Maldonado at catcher against lefties. I think this will be the case at Tampa Bay.

My guess is that both Drew Stubbs and Brandon Barnes get a start in the outfield with Corey Dickerson or Carlos Gonzalez moving to DH.

Nick Swisher

Baltimore has been rotating Steve Pearce, Delmon Young, and David Lough in the left field/DH spot not being occupied by Nelson Cruz on any given day. All three will sit and Cruz will start in left field.

The Angels minus the DH equals C.J. Cron not in the starting lineup.

Even with Jon Singleton struggling and Chris Carter swinging a figuratively hot bat, I think that Singleton starts both games against the righties and Carter starts the game against the lefty. However, I would not be surprised to see Carter get a start against a righty in the series.

Maybe David Ortiz gets a rest absent the DH, but with both of these tilts being night games and the second of which being on ESPN, I think Ortiz gets his third and fourth starts at first base. As a result, Napoli will be moved to pinch hittting/hanging over the dugout rail/chatting with teammates and coaches on the bench duties.

No DH means no Billy Butler unless Eric Hosmer is still hurt come these games, which would mean no Nori Aoki against the righty and no Danny Valencia against the lefty.

Several weeks ago we saw Nick Swisher relegated to bench duties when an away game at a National League park mercilessly stripped the Indians of the DH. My guess is that this will happen come the two-game series at Cincinnati.

Crawford/Van Slyke

Donald Lutz could see time at DH (a potential great moment for our species). Another option would be to start Chris Heisey in left field and move Ryan Ludwick to DH.

How we have seen the Braves utilize the DH and what I think will happen are the same: Ryan Doumit starts at DH for the night game and Evan Gattis gets to stay in the lineup at DH for the following day game.

When the Padres have a DH, they start Carlos Quentin in that role.

Carl Crawford will most likely get the start against the righty and Scott Van Slyke will most likely get the start against the lefty.
