  • Giants OF Hunter Pence continued his power-hitting binge, blasting a pair of homers and plating three runs.
  • Giants RP Sergio Romo slammed the door in the ninth inning, protecting a one-run advantage and earning his 35th save of the season.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong posted a quality start in a no-decision, surrendering three runs on seven hits over his six frames.
  • Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
  • Dodgers SP Edinson Volquez pitched fairly well in a no-decision, allowing three runs on five hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

- 4 at 0 - Braves (89-60)
  • Padres 3B Chase Headley went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.
  • Padres SP Burch Smith struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings to earn his first big league victory.

  • Pirates RP Mark Melancon notched a save for the second consecutive day, hurling a perfect ninth inning.
  • Pirates SP Francisco Liriano worked six innings of two-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Cubs C Welington Castillo went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI

Nationals

  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and a steal.
  • Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings.
  • Nationals C Wilson Ramos finished 4-for-4 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored.

- 0 at 1 - Mets (67-82) (12 innings)
  • Mets C Travis d'Arnaud laced a game-winning RBI single to center in the 12th inning.
  • Mets SP Dillon Gee fired 7 1/3 shutout innings, striking out eight, in a no-decision.
  • Marlins SP Tom Koehler enjoyed his finest hour as a major leaguer, working eight shutout innings
(84-66) Reds
- 5 at 6 - Brewers (65-83)
  • Brewers SS Jean Segura finished 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored.
  • Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo didn't have his good stuff as he allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings.
  • Reds 3B Todd Frazier singled and homered.
(68-82) Rockies
- 2 at 8 - Diamondbacks (75-73)
  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt had another monster day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a homer, double and five RBI.
  • Diamondbacks 3B Matt Davidson swatted the first home run of his big league career.
  • Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado pitched well, allowing just two runs on five hits over his six innings of work.
  • Rockies OF Charlie Culberson bashed a pinch-hit two-run homer in the fifth inning.
  • Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin lasted just four innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on seven hits in the process.
American League:
(81-68) Indians - 7 at 1 - White Sox (58-91)
  • Indians OF Matt Carson went 3-for-3 and slugged his first home run of the season.
  • Indians SP Zach McAllister delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
  • White Sox 3B Marcus Semien delivered his third multi-hit performance in four games, going 2-for-3.
  • White Sox SP Chris Sale had a forgettable evening, allowing six runs on nine hits and three walks in his 5 2/3 innings of work.
(79-71) Yankees - 2 at 9 - Red Sox (92-59)
  • Red Sox OF Daniel Nava had a solid day at the dish, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz improved to 11-0 on the season, allowing only an unearned run on two hits over six strong innings.
  • OF Alfonso Soriano (thumb) returned to the Yankees lineup, going 1-for-2 with a walk in a losing effort.
  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova struggled, surrendering four runs on six hits over his four innings of work.
(79-70) Orioles - 3 at 1 - Blue Jays (68-81)
  • Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind went 2-for-3 with a walk and homer.
  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson hurled a scoreless ninth inning en route to his 45th save.
(78-71) Royals
- 2 at 3 - Tigers (86-63)
  • Tigers C Alex Avila blasted two home runs.
  • Tigers SP Max Scherzer fell short of his 20th win for the fourth consecutive time, but was masterful nonetheless, spinning seven innings of one-run ball.
  • Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie was charged with three runs on 13 hits in eight innings.
(81-67) Rays
- 4 at 6 - Twins (64-84)
  • Twins RP Glen Perkins notched his 35th save by tossing a perfect ninth inning.
  • Twins C Josmil Pinto crushed a three-run homer in the eighth inning.
  • Rays SP David Price surrendered two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
(88-61) Athletics
- 5 at 1 - Rangers (81-67)
  • OF Chris Young belted one of three Athletics home runs.
  • Athletics SP Tommy Milone was called upon to make an emergency start in place of Jarrod Parker who was scratched due to illness on Sunday, and responded in impressive fashion, allowing just one run over five innings.
  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski went 1-for-4 with the only run scored.
  • Rangers SP Martin Perez logged a quality start, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.
(72-77) Angels
- 2 at 1 - Astros (51-98)
  • Angels RP Ernesto Frieri shut the Astros down in the eighth and ninth innings to earn his 34th save of the season.
  • Angels SP Jerome Williams fired seven innings of one-run ball, striking out three.
  • Astros OF Marc Krauss blasted a solo homer.
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Mets transferred RHP Bobby Parnell from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
American League:
  • Yankees sent RHP Jim Miller outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (thumb) will start on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
  • Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Sunday that he expects SP Wandy Rodriguez (elbow, forearm) to be ready for the start of spring training.
  • SP Johnny Cueto (lat) will rejoin the Reds' rotation on Monday in Houston.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Sunday that he hopes to get OF Starling Marte (hand) some at-bats "somewhere along way" in the upcoming series versus the Padres.
  • OF Jason Heyward (jaw) will accompany the Braves on their trip to Washington, D.C. to continue hitting and working out with the team.
  • Rockies SP Carlos Gonzalez (finger) is leaning towards undergoing surgery to repair his injured ring finger.
  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler will test his injured knee on Monday, and if all goes well could return to the lineup for their series opener against the Cardinals that evening.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (finger, back) is unlikely to play in Tuesday's series opener against the Mets.
  • Padres SP Cory Luebke (elbow) has been shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season.
  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (ankle) could be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

American League:

  • Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) will not leave with the Twins on Sunday for their road trip.
  • Astros DH Max Stassi (concussion) caught another bullpen session Sunday.
  • Athletics RP Brett Anderson (back) will play catch Sunday and thinks he'll be available out of the bullpen Monday.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman hasn't started a game since September 3.
  • Indians SP Justin Masterson (oblique) could throw a bullpen session by next weekend.
  • SP Bud Norris (elbow) could return to the Orioles' rotation on Friday or Saturday.
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) could be activated early this week.
  • Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez left Sunday's game against the Red Sox due to a tight calf.
  • Athletics SS Jed Lowrie was removed from Sunday's game against the Rangers in the eighth inning due to tightness in his hamstring.
  • Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes will get an MRI on his injured shoulder on Monday to determine the severity of his injury.
  • Yankees RP Boone Logan (elbow) is scheduled to visit renowned elbow specialist Dr. James Andrews.
  • Orioles OF Nate McLouth declared himself fine on Sunday, after X-rays on his injured knee came back negative.
  • OF Brett Gardner is not optimistic about his chances to return to the Yankees lineup this season.
  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez was diagnosed with a Grade 1 groin sprain, an injury that forced from Sunday's start against the Blue Jays after just 5 1/3 innings.

Notes & Rumors:

National League:

  • Padres OF Mark Kotsay will retire at the end of the season.
  • SP Collin McHugh will start in place of Jorge De La Rosa when the Rockies take on the Cardinals on Monday.
  • Padres RP Huston Street will be away from the team for the next two games, as he returns to Texas to attend the funeral of his grandmother.

American League:

  • White Sox RP Charlie Leesman is likely to get a spot start soon.
  • The Rays are reportedly considering recalling Tim Beckham, the first overall selection from the 2008 draft, from Triple-A Durham.jason
