  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson took his eighth loss after giving up an unearned run in a tie game.
  • 1B Mark Reynolds hit his fourth homer as a Yankee.
  • Orioles OF Nick Markakis homered and singled.

  • Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand) took full swings in a simulated game Thursday.
  • Braves SP Brandon Beachy is still experiencing elbow discomfort.
  • Nathan Eovaldi was scratched from his scheduled Thursday start because of back tightness.
  • Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez left Thursday's game against the Giants for precautionary reasons due to mild left hamstring tightness.
  • Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) has been cleared to play defense and will likely hit in the batting cage this weekend.
  • Giants RP Chad Gaudin (carpal tunnel syndrome) will throw another simulated game Friday.
  • Phillies OF Domonic Brown (heel) took batting practice Thursday and said afterwards that he feels "close to 100 percent."
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig (foot) will remain in a walking boot for now as a precaution.
American League
  • Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that C Joe Mauer (concussion) felt fine after working out at Target Field on Thursday.
  • Yankees C Austin Romine (concussion) said Thursday that he feels "much better" than he did two days ago.
  • Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (wrist) hit off a tee Thursday and hopes to return this weekend.
  • Twins GM Terry Ryan said Thursday that SP Samuel Deduno is "leaning toward" undergoing shoulder surgery.
  • Orioles RP Darren O'Day underwent two sets of tests on his hand and elbow on Thursday.
  • Yankees SP Ivan Nova (triceps) expects to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Red Sox.
  • Yankees RP Boone Logan had to stop a game of catch Thursday after just five throws when he felt discomfort in his left elbow.
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner will travel to New York to undergo an MRI on his left oblique.
  • X-rays on Red Sox SP Jake Peavy's right wrist came back negative.
  • Angels SP Jered Weaver (forearm) threw a bullpen session with no issues Thursday.
  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner has been diagnosed with a strained left oblique.

  • Cardinals prospect 3B Stephen Piscotty batted .295/.355/.464 with 15 home runs, 11 stolen bases and a 46/37 K/BB ratio in 112 games this season between High-A Palm Beach and Double-A Springfield.
  • Mets pitching prospect Gabriel Ynoa posted a 15-4 record, 2.72 ERA and 106/16 K/BB ratio in 135 2/3 innings this season at Low-A Savannah.
  • Pirates prospect Tyler Glasnow finished the 2013 season with a 9-3 record, 2.18 ERA, .142 BAA and 164/61 K/BB ratio in 111 1/3 innings for Low-A West Virginia.
  • Rockies prospect 3B Ryan McMahon batted .321/.402/.583 with 11 home runs, 52 RBI and a 59/28 K/BB ratio in 59 games for rookie-level Grand Junction.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that RP Jason Grilli will now be used in the seventh and eighth innings.
  • Cardinals C Yadier Molina is expected back in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

American League:

  • Red Sox prospect 2B Mookie Betts batted .314/.417/.506 with 93 runs, 55 extra-base hits and 38 steals in 127 games this year between Low-A Greenville and High-A Salem.
  • Astros shortstop prospect Carlos Correa batted .320/.405/.467 with 45 extra-base hits, 86 RBI, 10 steals and a 83/53 K/BB ratio in 117 games for Low-A Quad Cities.
  • OF Nelson Cruz began working out at the Rangers' spring training complex in Arizona on Wednesday.
  • C Jose Molina is expected to rejoin the Rays on Friday.
