  • Padres RP Huston Street picked up his 1st win of the year in relief.
  • Padres SP Eric Stults allowed three runs in 6.2 innings in a no decision.
  • Padres OF Will Venable hit his 17th bomb of the year.
(55-68) Giants - 5 at 6 - Marlins (47-75)
  • Marlins C Jeff Mathis went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, homer and two RBI.
  • Marlins RP Steve Cishek earned his 27th save of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
  • Giants SP Madison Bumgarner coughed up four runs on five hits over five innings.
(64-58) Diamondbacks - 4 at 2 - Pirates (72-51) (16 innings)
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz earned his sixth save by tossing a scoreless 16th inning.
  • Diamondbacks SP Wade Miley allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out eight, over eight innings of a no-decision.
  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton yielded two earned runs on seven hits through seven innings in a no-decision.

  • Reds OF Shin-Soo Choo reached base in all five plate appearances.
  • Reds SP Homer Bailey fired a gem, allowing only one run on three hits over eight innings.
  • Brewers SP Wily Peralta was knocked around for seven earned runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.
(71-52) Cardinals - 6 at 1 - Cubs (53-70)
  • Cardinals C Yadier Molina collected two doubles and two runs scored.
  • Cardinals OF Jon Jay finished 2-for-3 with a walk, double, home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright struck out 11 and yielded just one run over seven innings.
  • Cubs OF Junior Lake went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels permitted two runs on seven hits over seven innings in a no-decision.

  • Braves RP Craig Kimbrel struck and three, allowing one hit, over a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 39th save of the year.

  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera launched his 40th home run.
  • Tigers SP Max Scherzer fired eight innings of two-run ball.
  • Royals RP Bruce Chen was rocked for six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.
(49-74) White Sox - 5 at 2 - Twins (54-68)
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed earned his 31st save of the season.
  • White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, three RBI and two runs scored.
  • White Sox SP Hector Santiago surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits in six innings.
(64-59) Yankees - 9 at 6 - Red Sox (73-53)
  • Yankees SP C.C. Sabathia picked up his 11th win of the year despite allowing six runs.
  • Red Sox SP Ryan Dempster was lit up for seven runs in 5.1 innings in the loss.
  • Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez hit his 2nd homer of the year.
(57-66) Mariners - 4 at 3 - Rangers (71-53)
  • Mariners SP Erasmo Ramirez pitched well allowing just one run over 7 innings.
  • Rangers SP Yu Darvish allowed three runs in 7.1 innings.
  • Mariners RP Danny Farquhar saved his 7th game of the year.
  • Mariners OF Michael Saunders collected three hits and stole his 12th base of the year.
(41-82) Astros - 7 at 5 - Angels (55-68)
  • Astros OF L.J. Hoes had a great game going 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored.
  • Astros SP Brett Oberholtzer picked up his 3rd win of the year giving up three runs in 6 innings.
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas went 5.1 innings allowing three runs in a no decision.
(57-67) Blue Jays - 1 at 2 - Rays (70-52) (10 innings)
  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria finished 2-for-3 with a walk, double and homer.
  • Rays SP Chris Archer enjoyed a productive afternoon, allowing one run on four scattered hits over seven frames.
  • Blue Jays SP Todd Redmond twirled six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.
(66-58) Indians - 3 at 7 - Athletics (70-53)
Inter League:
(58-67) Rockies - 2 at 7 - Orioles (67-56)
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis had a monster game, going 4-for-5 with a double, homer, two RBI and three runs scored.
  • Orioles SP Scott Feldman permitted two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory.
  • Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin yielded three runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.

  • Pirates acquired RHP Doug Mathis from the Marlins for a PTBNL or cash.
  • Mets recalled RHP Greg Burke from Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • Mets placed RHP Jenrry Mejia on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow discomfort.
  • Pirates recalled LHP Kris Johnson from Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • Pirates optioned OF Andrew Lambo to Triple-A Indianapolis.
American League:
Injury Updates:

National League:

  • SP Paul Maholm (wrist) said he feels ready to return to the Braves after his rehab start on Saturday.
  • Brewers OF Carlos Gomez said his knee is feeling "way, way better" and that he's hoping to return by the start of the Reds series next weekend.
  • Dodgers RP Brian Wilson (elbow) will likely not be activated on Sunday but could be in the next day or two.
  • Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) was re-evaluated in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
American League:
  • Athletics SP Brett Anderson (foot) could rejoin the A's after his rehab start on Thursday.
  • Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (oblique) said his injury has "four-to-six weeks written all over it."
  • Orioles SP Jason Hammel (forearm) will throw off flat ground on Monday with an eye toward throwing off a mound on Friday.
  • Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) made 55 throws from 75 feet on Sunday and said it went "great," according to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.
  • White Sox RP Ramon Troncoso went to the hospital with chest pains on Friday.
Notes and Rumors

National League:
  • The Pirates have been scouting Cuban first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu.
  • SP Jeff Locke will make his next start as scheduled, Pirates GM Neil Huntington said.
  • SP Brandon Beachy will start on Tuesday, a day earlier than originally scheduled, as the Braves reshuffle their rotation.
  • SP Jake Westbrook will remain in the Cardinals' rotation and make his scheduled start on Wednesday in Milwaukee, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said.
  • The Pirates may shift SP Gerrit Cole to the bullpen in September and October.
  • The Brewers have reassigned RP Tyler Thornburg to the bullpen.
American League
  • Astros RP Chia-Jen Lo and Josh Fields have emerged as the two-person committee that will close out games for the Astros.
  • Twins SP Mike Pelfrey revealed that he takes Adderall to treat ADHD while discussing the Miguel Tejada situation with the media.
