Yesterday's Notable Stat Lines:
(55-64) Mets - 4 at 1 - Padres (54-67)
- Mets SP Zach Wheeler struck out 12 in six innings of work in a no decision.
- Mets C John Buck hit his 15th homer of the year.
- Padres SP Tyson Ross was excellent allowing just one run in 7 innings while striking out eight.
(53-67) Giants - 4 at 3 - Nationals (59-61)
- Nationals OF Denard Span went 1-for-5 with a steal and a run scored.
- Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs over 3 2/3 frames, but managed to escape with a no-decision.
- Nationals SP Dan Haren deserved a win but got a no-decision Thursday, holding the Giants to one run over six innings in a loss.
- Nationals RP Rafael Soriano blew his fifth save of the season by allowing three runs over an inning of work.
- Giants C Hector Sanchez smashed a go-ahead, pinch-hit, three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning.
- Giants 1B Brandon Belt launched the fourth homer in his last seven games.
(71-49) Pirates - 5 at 6 - Cardinals (69-51) (12 innings)
- Cardinals 3B David Freese finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
- Cardinals OF Matt Holliday delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning.
- Cardinals SP Lance Lynn was handed a no-decision after allowing four runs over 5 1/3 innings.
- Pirates SP A.J. Burnett was tagged for five runs over 4 1/3 innings.
- Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter reached base in five out of six plate appearances, going 4-for-5 with an RBI triple, a walk and two runs scored.
- Pirates C Russell Martin went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and a walk.
(69-52) Reds - 2 at 1 - Brewers (52-69)
- Reds SP Tony Cingrani struck out nine while allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings.
- Brewers RP Rob Wooten struck out two in a perfect inning and hasn't allowed a run in 11 innings since being called up.
(62-57) Royals - 1 at 4 - Tigers (71-49)
(46-74) White Sox - 3 at 4 - Twins (54-65)
- Twins Pinch-hitter C Chris Herrmann singled in Doug Bernier in the bottom of the ninth which proved to be the difference.
- White Sox SP Andre Rienzo surrendered two runs -- one earned -- in six innings in a no-decision.
(54-66) Angels - 8 at 4 - Yankees (62-58)
- Yankees C Austin Romine went 1-for-3.
- Angels C Hank Conger went 1-for-3 with a walk, double, RBI and run scored.
- Angels 3B Chris Nelson connected for a grand slam and a solo homer.
- Angels SP C.J. Wilson notched his 13th victory of the season after allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings.
- Yankees SP Phil Hughes yielded three runs over six innings.
- Yankees OF Alfonso Soriano went 4-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored.
(72-51) Red Sox - 1 at 2 - Blue Jays (56-65)
- Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle scattered 10 hits while allowing one run in seven innings.
- Red Sox SP Jake Peavy was charged with two earned runs over six-plus innings.
- Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar struck out all three times he was up and is 0-for-7 since being called up.
(39-81) Astros - 0 at 5 - Athletics (68-52)
- Athletics RP Sonny Gray allowed just four hits while striking out nine over eight scoreless frames.
- Astros SP Erik Bedard lasted just 4 2/3 innings, getting rocked for five runs on seven hits and four walks in a loss.
- Athletics 1B Nate Freiman went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBI.
(55-65) Mariners - 1 at 7 - Rays (68-51)
- Rays OF Wil Myers finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI.
- Rays SP Alex Cobb had a successful return from the DL, allowing one run over five innings in a win.
- Mariners SP Joe Saunders surrendered five runs in 4 1/3 innings.
- Mariners OF Raul Ibanez went 2-for-4 and homered.

National League:
- Nationals recalled RHP Drew Storen from Triple-A Syracuse.
- Nationals optioned RHP Ryan Mattheus to Triple-A Syracuse.
- Cardinals placed C Tony Cruz on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his left forearm.
- Cardinals activated OF Shane Robinson from the 15-day disabled list.
- Cardinals activated C Yadier Molina from the 15-day disabled list.
- Cardinals optioned INF Jermaine Curtis to Triple-A Memphis.
- Padres transferred RHP Jason Marquis from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
- Padres purchased the contract of C Chris Robinson from Triple-A Tucson.
- Padres placed C Nick Hundley on the paternity list.
- Cardinals optioned OF Adron Chambers to Triple-A Memphis.
- Cardinals purchased the contract of 2B Kolten Wong from Triple-A Memphis.
American League:
- Rays activated RHP Alex Cobb from the 60-day disabled list.
- Rays designated INF Ryan Roberts for assignment.
- Royals designated INF Elliot Johnson for assignment.
- Twins activated OF Darin Mastroianni from the 60-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.
- Yankees purchased the contract of LHP David Huff from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
- Yankees optioned RHP Dellin Betances to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
- Yankees transferred RHP David Phelps form the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
- According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has passed through waivers.
- Yankees released LHP Mike Zagurski.
- Blue Jays recalled OF Anthony Gose from Triple-A Buffalo.
- Blue Jays optioned RHP Mickey Storey to Triple-A Buffalo.
- Yankees signed INF Mark Reynolds.
Injury Updates:
National League:
- Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday.
- Phillies SP Roy Halladay (shoulder) allowed three earned runs over six innings Thursday in his rehab debut.
- Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) expects to return Friday.
- Braves 2B Tyler Pastornicky will get an MRI on his knee Thursday.
- Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Thursday that it "seems likely" SP John Lannan (knee) is headed back to the disabled list.
- Giants RP Sandy Rosario left Thursday's appearance against the Nationals after appearing to take a comebaker off his chest.
- Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks underwent successful surgery on his left hamstring Thursday.
- Mets RP LaTroy Hawkins (groin) could be unavailable to pitch Thursday.
- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated after Thursday's game that OF Carlos Gomez's knee injury wasn't too serious.
- Padres OF Cameron Maybin (knee) will resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson over the weekend.
- Padres OF Carlos Quentin recently received a second opinion on his right knee at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.
- Padres RP Huston Street hasn't allowed a run since June 23.
- Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't expect 3B Wilmer Flores (ankle) to need a disabled list stint.
- Reds SP Johnny Cueto (lat) and Sean Marshall (shoulder) will undergo strength tests on Friday or Saturday.
American League:
- Athletics OF Coco Crisp (wrist) could return to the Athletics' lineup Friday.
- An MRI confirmed that Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson is dealing with a strained right forearm.
- Tigers C Alex Avila (concussion) has yet to be cleared for baseball activities.
- Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik confirmed that SP Danny Hultzen (shoulder) could be shut down for the season.
- Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) was cleared to resume light on-field work Thursday.
- White Sox manager Robin Ventura expects 2B Gordon Beckham to miss "a couple days."
- Twins C Ryan Doumit has passed a concussion test and could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
- Twins SP Nick Blackburn will have season-ending surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

National League:
- Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon is just 10-for-16 in save conversions since his last appearance of May, posting a disappointing 4.15 ERA over 26 innings.
- Marlins 1B Logan Morrison is slashing .340/.404/.468 with nine RBI over 12 August games.
- Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki is batting just .208/.300/.365 with four homers and 14 RBI over 110 plate appearances since he was activated from the disabled list on July 11.
- Braves OF B.J. Upton is 0-for-15 with no walks and seven strikeouts over his last five games.
- Diamondbacks SS Didi Gregorius is batting just .211/.292/.265 over 186 plate appearances since June 1.
American League
- Tigers SP Jose Alvarez will start the second half of Friday's day-night doubleheader with the Royals.
- Mariners C Eric Wedge could rejoin the Mariners on August 23 for the beginning of their next home stand.
- Indians 2B Jason Kipnis hasn't homered since July 21.
- Twins OF Chris Colabello is batting a blistering .409/.536/.727 with two homers in 28 plate appearances since August 6.
