Yesterday's Notable Stat Lines:
(47-65) Brewers - 2 at 4 - Giants (50-61)
- Giants RP Sergio Romo coughed up a solo home run to Juan Francisco in the ninth inning, but escaped with the save.
- Giants 1B Brandon Belt went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
- Giants RP Chad Gaudin turned in his second consecutive quality start, tossing 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball.
- Brewers RP Tyler Thornburg gave up just one unearned run over six innings in a no-decision.
(62-49) Dodgers - 3 at 2 - Cardinals (65-46)
- Dodgers SP Zack Greinke yielded two runs in 6 1/3 innings.
- Dodgers RP Paco Rodriguez was perfect for two innings and picked up a save with Kenley Jansen unavailable.
(68-45) Braves - 3 at 2 - Nationals (54-58)
- Braves OF Justin Upton went 3-for-4 and hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the eighth.
- With Craig Kimbrel in need of a day off, RP Jordan Walden stepped into the closer's role and pitched a scoreless ninth for a save.
- Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg was left with a no-decision after allowing two runs in seven innings and striking out nine.
(65-45) Tigers - 4 at 2 - Indians (62-50)
- Tigers C Alex Avila hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth.
- Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez fanned 11 while allowing two runs over 7 2/3 innings.
- Indians SP Corey Kluber was denied a win after allowing no runs for 7 1/3 innings.
- Indians RP Chris Perez gave up four runs without retiring a batter to take a blown save and a loss.
- Indians OF Drew Stubbs went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and committed an error.
(63-50) Rangers - 5 at 2 - Angels (51-60)
- Rangers RP Joe Nathan notched his 33rd save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
- Angels OF Mike Trout went 1-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Rangers SP Martin Perez was charged with two runs over 6 1/3 innings.
- Angels SP Jerome Williams was pounded for five runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
(57-54) Yankees - 1 at 8 - White Sox (41-69)
- White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez finished with four hits and two RBI.
- Yankees OF Vernon Wells went 3-for-4 in his first ever start at first base.
- Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-4 in his 2013 debut.
- White Sox SP Jose Quintana allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings.
- Yankees SP Andy Pettitte struggled, giving up seven runs and 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings.
(48-61) Twins - 0 at 13 - Royals (57-52)
- Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie hurled his second complete-game shutout of the season.
- Twins SP Kevin Correia was lit up for six runs in two innings.
- Royals 1B Eric Hosmer went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBI.
- Royals 3B Mike Moustakas had four hits, including a double, and two RBI.
(68-46) Red Sox - 0 at 2 - Astros (37-74)
- Astros RP Brett Oberholtzer allowed just four hits over seven innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout.
- Astros RP Josh Fields struck out all four battershe faced to pick up his first career save.
- Red Sox SP John Lackey allowed two runs in six innings and struck out 10.
- Astros SS Jonathan Villar went 2-for-2 with a walk and stole three bases.
- Astros OF L.J. Hoes went 2-for-3 with a double, a steal and two runs scored.
(52-60) Blue Jays - 3 at 1 - Mariners (52-60)
- Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie finished a home run short of the cycle.
- Mariners 1B Justin Smoak hit a solo home run.
- Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey delivered 7 2/3 strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out five.
- Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma surrendered two runs over 7 1/3 innings while giving up only four hits.

National League:
- Cubs transferred RHP Rafael Dolis from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
- Padres RP Fautino De Los Santos was handed a 50-game PED suspension Monday from Major League Baseball.
- Mets OF Cesar Puello has been suspended 50 games by MLB.
- Phillies RP Antonio Bastardo has accepted a 50-game performance-enhancing drug suspension from MLB.
- Mets OF Jordany Valdespin has accepted a 50-game PED suspension from MLB.
- Padres SS Everth Cabrera has accepted a 50-game performance-enhancing drug suspension from Major League Baseball.
- Cubs claimed OF Thomas Neal off waivers from the Yankees.
- Brewers minor league left-hander William West was suspended 50 games for his second violation for a drug of abuse.
- Dodgers recalled INF Dee Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque.
- Dodgers optioned RHP Stephen Fife to Triple-A Albuquerque.
- Mets recalled 3B Wilmer Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas.
American League:
- Red Sox recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.
- Red Sox placed OF Daniel Nava on paternity leave.
- Angels signed INF Andy Marte to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake City.
- Angels released 1B Brad Hawpe.
- Major League Baseball has suspended Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez through the conclusion of the 2014 season.
- Blue Jays OF Melky Cabrera will not be suspended again by MLB.
- Athletics SP Bartolo Colon will not face further punishment for his involvement in the Biogenesis clinic.
- RP Jordan Norberto received a 50-game suspension from MLB for his involvement in the Biogenesis clinic.
- Major League Baseball has handed Mariners C Jesus Montero a 50-game performance-enhancing drug suspension.
- Yankees OF Fernando Martinez has been suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball.
- Yankees C Francisco Cervelli has accepted a 50-game performance-enhancing drug suspension from MLB.

- Yankees placed SS Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 3, with a right calf strain.
- Rangers designated INF Adam Rosales for assignment.
- Yankees designated INF Brent Lillibridge for assignment.
- Rangers purchased the contract of OF Joey Butler from Triple-A Round Rock.
- Rangers recalled OF Engel Beltre from Triple-A Round Rock.

- The Mariners decided to send down RP Tom Wilhelmsen after Monday's game against the Blue Jays.
Injury Updates:
National League:
- Diamondbacks SP Trevor Cahill (hip, shoulder) could return to the Diamondbacks' starting rotation this weekend.
- Cardinals OF Shane Robinson (shoulder) should be ready to return from the disabled list when first eligible.
- Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that C Yadier Molina (knee) is showing some improvement.
- Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) could be placed on the 15-day DL.
- Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras (ankle) is still about 10 days away from playing in rehab games.
- Dodgers RP Brian Wilson (elbow) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.
- Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) said Monday that he's not currently throwing and isn't optimistic about pitching this season.
- Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is feeling better Monday and will not go for an MRI.
- Mets RP Bobby Parnell received an injection in his neck Monday during a follow-up exam in New York.
- Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) said Monday that he's "not ruling out" a return this season.
- The Rockies have no plans at this time to place OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) on the disabled list.
- Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday to start against the Orioles.
- Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez tested out his sprained left knee on the bases Monday and will do some running again Wednesday.
- Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on August 16.
American League:
- X-rays taken Sunday on Rays OF Desmond Jennings' sprained left middle finger showed no fracture.
- Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) is expected to make at least three more minor league rehab starts.
- Angels OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) took part in batting practice for a fourth straight day on Sunday.
- Angels SP Jason Vargas (arm) is tentatively scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.
- Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday.
- Twins OF Josh Willingham (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Rochester.
- Tigers 2B Omar Infante (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo.
- Angels manager Mike Scioscia said OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) is "not quite where he needs to be" hitting-wise to begin a rehab assignment.
- White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo is considered day-to-day with a jammed left thumb.
- Angels SP Jason Vargas (arm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
- Angels 2B Howie Kendrick has been diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee.
Notes and Rumors
National League:
- Mike Puma of the New York Post was told that there's a "good chance" that Mets 3B Wilmer Flores will be called up to play third base within the next week.
- Brewers RP Chris Narveson is expected to be called up to start on Wednesday in place of the injured Tom Gorzelanny (elbow).
