Yesterday's Notable Stat Lines:
National League:
(48-47) Dodgers - 3 at 2 - Nationals (48-48)
- Dodgers OF Andre Ethier led off the ninth inning with a solo homer off Rafael Soriano.
- Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning, preserving a one-run advantage and locking up his 10th save of the season.
- Dodgers SP Ricky Nolasco turned in a decent effort in a no-decision, surrendering two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks in 5 1/3 innings.
- Nationals OF Bryce Harper went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
- Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg racked up six strikeouts in a no-decision, surrendering two runs on seven hits and a walk over his seven innings of work.

- Reds OF Chris Heisey went 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Pirates OF Starling Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer.

- Mets OF Marlon Byrd swatted his 16th home run of the season in a losing effort.
- Mets SP Jeremy Hefner was absolutely obliterated, getting torched for eight runs on 10 hits in his two-plus innings of work.
- Phillies 2B Chase Utley homered, tripled and plated three runs.
- Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick was knocked around for six runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings on Friday, but thanks to an outpouring of offensive support, still managed to get the win.
(35-59) Marlins - 0 at 2 - Brewers (39-56)
- Brewers 3B Juan Francisco launched his 12th home run of the season.
- Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez worked a perfect ninth inning, earning his 10th save of the season.
- Brewers SP Kyle Lohse fired six scoreless innings, scattering just five hits along the way.
- Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria was the lone bright spot offensively, going 3-for-3.
- Marlins SP Jacob Turner was solid in a losing effort, allowing two runs on five hits in his five innings of work.
(42-55) Padres - 6 at 9 - Cardinals (58-36)
- Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook hurled 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball on eight hits.
- Padres SP Jason Marquis was spanked for six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.
- Cardinals 2B Matt Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, three RBI and a run scored.
(43-51) Cubs - 3 at 1 - Rockies (46-51)
- In his major league debut, Cubs OF Junior Lake went 3-for-4 with a double and a steal.
- Cubs RP Kevin Gregg danced around a double and a walk in tossing a scoreless ninth inning and earning his 18th save.
- Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija spun 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball.
- Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa allowed one run on five hits over six innings in a no-decision.
(50-46) Diamondbacks - 0 at 2 - Giants (44-51)
- Giants RP Chad Gaudin struck out eight in seven innings and combined with five relievers on a shutout.
- Diamondbacks OF Gerardo Parra went 0-for-3 and is 7-for-46 with one RBI and one walk this month.
(56-41) Rays - 8 at 5 - Blue Jays (45-50)
- Rays 2B Ben Zobrist finished 3-for-5 with a double and a home run.
- Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista clubbed a two-run homer off David Price, his 21st long fly of the season.
- Rays SP David Price surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings in a win.
- Blue Jays RP Esmil Rogers gave up four runs off solo four homers over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
(51-45) Yankees - 2 at 4 - Red Sox (59-39)
- Red Sox OF Jonny Gomes belted a two-run homer.
- Red Sox RP Koji Uehara retired all three batters he faced in the ninth inning, earning his ninth save of the season.
- Red Sox SP Felix Doubront won his third consecutive start, surrendering just two runs (one earned) on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings.
- Yankees C Chris Stewart went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
- Yankees SP Andy Pettitte turned in a disappointing performance, surrendering four runs on six hits in his 6 1/3 innings.
(54-43) Orioles - 3 at 1 - Rangers (54-42)
- Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen effectively danced from danger, allowing one run on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a victory.
- Rangers SP Derek Holland pitched well in defeat, allowing three runs on six hits.
- Orioles RP Jim Johnson hurled a scoreless ninth inning en route to his 34th save.
- Orioles C Matt Wieters launched his 13th homer of the year.
(52-43) Tigers - 0 at 1 - Royals (44-49)
- Tigers 2B Ramon Santiago had a rough night at the dish, going 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts.
- Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez pitched well, allowing only one run on four hits over his six innings of work.
- Royals OF Alex Gordon went 1-for-4 and scored the lone run.
- Royals RP Greg Holland continued his recent domination of the American League, working a perfect inning to secure his 23rd save.
- Royals SP Ervin Santana was terrific, scattering two hits and a walk over 7 1/3 scoreless innings.
(51-45) Indians - 2 at 3 - Twins (40-53)
- Twins RP Glen Perkins struck out a batter in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 22nd save of the season.
- Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
- Twins SP Mike Pelfrey surrendered two earned runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision.
- Indians SP Scott Kazmir allowed two runs -- none earned -- over six innings in a no-decision.
(44-52) Mariners - 10 at 7 - Astros (33-62)
- Mariners SS Brad Miller went 3-for-5 with a walk, two homers and five RBI.
- Astros OF Brandon Barnes was an offensive terror, hitting the cycle en route to a 5-for-5 night.
- Mariners SP Joe Saunders allowed three runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.
- Astros SP Bud Norris was shelled for six runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
(56-40) Athletics - 1 at 4 - Angels (45-49)
- Angels SP Jered Weaver blanked gave up no runs for 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight in a victory.
- Angels DH Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 and hit his 16th homer of the season.
Inter League:
(55-41) Braves - 6 at 4 - White Sox (37-56)
- Braves RP Craig Kimbrel worked a scoreless ninth inning, protecting a two-run advantage to earn his 27th save of the season.
- White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
- Braves SP Tim Hudson allowed four runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings.
- White Sox SP John Danks was tagged for five runs on seven hits over seven innings.

National League:
- Cardinals recalled RHP Fernando Salas from Triple-A Memphis.
- Padres signed INF Scott Moore to a minor league contract.
- Cubs placed OF Brian Bogusevic on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 15, with a strained left hamstring.
- Cubs recalled INF/OF Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa.
- Cubs sent RHP Henry Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Iowa.
- Marlins activated RHP Chad Qualls from the paternity leave list.
- Rockies released RHP Aaron Cook.
American League:
- Yankees purchased the contract of INF/OF Brent Lillibridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

National League:
- Phillies RP Jeremy Horst (elbow) suffered a setback during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will likely be shut down for the season.
- Phillies RP Mike Adams is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
- Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) had his bullpen session scratched on Friday.
- Pirates 2B Neil Walker (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Indianapolis.
- Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.
- Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
- Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) fared well in his rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work.
- Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (hamstring) was able to take batting practice for the second straight day on Friday, but is still felt lingering tightness during running drills.
- Giants 3B Joaquin Arias (appendectomy) is expected to return from the disabled list in the middle of next week.
- Brewers 1B Micah Owings (arm) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Monday.
- Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) will face live hitters for the first time in batting practice on Saturday.
- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated Friday that OF Ryan Braun is expected to be in the starting lineup on Saturday.
- Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras (ankle) is expected to miss a few more days before returning to action on his minor league rehab assignment.
American League:
- FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was told by a scout that Yankeees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) is "moving well, much better than (Derek) Jeter was."
- Angels OF Peter Bourjos will not return before August after X-rays on his right wrist showed that the bone isn't completely healed yet.
- Rays RP Brandon Gomes (lat) began a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Rays on Thursday.
- Rays SP Alex Cobb (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte Tuesday.
- White Sox SP Jake Peavy (rib) will be activated from the disabled list and start on Saturday against the Braves.
- Orioles DH Nolan Reimold is headed back to the disabled list with a recurrence of the neck pain that forced him to miss nearly all of last season.
- Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) has resumed a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma.
- Mariners OF Michael Morse (quad) is hoping to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.
- Orioles manager Buck Showalter indicated Friday that DH Nolan Reimold will miss the remainder of the 2013 season due to nerve inflammation in his cervical spine.
- Tigers 2B Omar Infante (ankle) will be reevaluated on Saturday.
- Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Friday he was unsure if DH Derek Jeter (quad) will be able to return from the disabled list when first eligible.
- Tigers SP Justin Verlander (quad) is on track to start Saturday against the Royals.
- Red Sox RP Andrew Bailey has labrum damage in his right shoulder and is likely facing season-ending surgery.
- Indians manager Terry Francona expressed optimism Friday that SP Zach McAllister (finger) will be able to return to the rotation on Tuesday against the Mariners.
- Orioles RP Steve Johnson (oblique) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game in Sarasota on Saturday.
- Orioles 3B Wilson Betemit (knee) has been running at 90 feet.
- Red Sox OF Shane Victorino was removed from Friday's game in the third inning due to left hamstring tightness.
- Athletics SP Brett Anderson (foot) is expected to throw his first bullpen session when the team travels to Houston next week.
- Athletics SP Jarrod Parker threw a successful bullpen session on Friday, marking the first time he had done so without experiencing hamstring issues.
- Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head, knee) has moved his minor league rehab assignment to Triple-A Buffalo.
- Rangers DH Lance Berkman (hip) hit in the batting cages on Friday, the first time he has been able to do so since being placed on the disabled list.
Notes and Rumors:
National League:
- MLB.com's Joe Frisaro writes that the Marlins are "highly likely" to call up top prospect OF Christian Yelich "in either late July or early August, at the latest."
- Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the trade sending Cubs SP Matt Garza to the Rangers has hit a snag and is no longer a certainty.
American League:
- Mariners manager Eric Wedge confirmed Friday that SP Erasmo Ramirez will return to the Mariners' rotation to take on the Indians on Tuesday.
- White Sox 1B Paul Konerko will play his second of four games on a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham on Friday.
- Yankees OF Brett Gardner was ejected after slamming his helmet to the ground after taking a called third strike to end the fifth inning on Friday.
- Orioles' first-round pick Hunter Harvey tossed a scoreless inning in his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Orioles on Friday.
- Orioles OF Henry Urrutia will make his first MLB start as the Orioles' DH on Saturday.
- The Yankees are expected to recall OF Thomas Neal and Melky Mesa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before Saturday's game against the Red Sox.
- White Sox OF Alex Rios was pulled from Friday's game for failing to run out a double play grounder in the fifth inning.
