Yesterday's Notable Stat Lines:
National League:
(40-50) Mets - 2 at 4 - Pirates (56-36)
- Pirates RP Jason Grilli worked a perfect ninth inning, preserving a two run lead and earning his National League leading 29th save.
- Pirates SP A.J. Burnett racked up eight strikeouts, but settled for a no-decision after allowing two runs on seven hits in his 5 2/3 innings of work.
- Mets OF Eric Young Jr. went 2-for-4 and swiped his 16th base of the season.
- Mets RP Carlos Torres pitched well in his first start, allowing one run on five hits over five frames in a no-decision.
- Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen homered and drove home two runs.
(45-50) Rockies - 0 at 1 - Dodgers (47-46)
- Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez plated Skip Schumaker with an RBI groundout in the first inning, providing more than enough run support for Zack Greinke.
- Dodgers SP Zack Greinke delivered an outstanding performance, tossing a complete game shutout, scattering just two hits and a walk in the process.
- Rockies 2B D.J. LaMahieu had a rough night at the dish, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
- Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood was victimized by poor run support, suffering his third loss of the season despite allowing just one run on four hits in his eight innings of work.
(47-47) Nationals - 1 at 2 - Marlins (35-57) (10 innings)
- Nationals SP Dan Haren pitched an exceptional game in a no-decision, allowing just three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings while punching out seven.
- Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton blasted a game-tying solo homer off Rafael Soriano in the ninth inning.
- Marlins SP Jose Fernandez pitched well in a no-decision, surrendering just one run on four hits over his six innings of work.
- Nationals RP Rafael Soriano was handed his fourth blown save of the season, and first since May 21, after surrendering a solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in the ninth inning.
- OF Jayson Werth's fourth inning sacrifice fly provided the entirety of the Nationals' offensive attack.
(52-42) Reds - 2 at 5 - Braves (54-40)
- Braves SP Mike Minor allowed two runs over seven innings while striking out seven.
- Reds OF Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Braves OF Jose Constanza went 3-for-4 with an RBI in his season debut.
- Reds SP Homer Bailey allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings.
(37-56) Brewers - 4 at 5 - Diamondbacks (50-44)
- Diamondbacks C Miguel Montero went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
- Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.
(56-36) Cardinals - 4 at 6 - Cubs (42-50)
- Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano continued his hot-hitting ways, going 2-for-5 with a double and a solo home run.
- Cubs RP Kevin Gregg allowed a run on a pair of walks and a single, but managed to escape with his 17th save of the season.
- Despite allowing 10 hits and a pair of walks, Cubs SP Matt Garza picked up his sixth victory of the season, allowing just two runs over 6 2/3 innings.
- Cardinals OF Jon Jay had a nice night at the dish, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
- Cardinals SP Lance Lynn was knocked around, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings.
(43-50) Giants - 9 at 0 - Padres (41-54)
(38-53) Twins - 4 at 1 - Yankees (51-43)
- Twins SP Sam Deduno fired seven innings of one-run ball.
- Twins RP Glen Perkins pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 21st save of the season.
- Yankees SP Phil Hughes surrendered four runs over 7 1/3 innings.
- Twins C Ryan Doumit launched a go-ahead solo homer.
- Yankees 3B Luis Cruz was hitless in four at-bats.
(45-48) Blue Jays - 7 at 3 - Orioles (52-43)
(54-40) Rangers - 7 at 1 - Tigers (51-42)
- Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland blasted a two-run homer off Max Scherzer.
- Rangers SP Derek Holland was impressive, allowing just one run on five hits over seven strong innings.
- Tigers 2B Hernan Perez collected the first RBI of his career when a fourth inning single plated Jhonny Peralta.
- In his final start of the first half, Tigers SP Max Scherzer suffered his first loss of the 2013 season, surrendering four runs on eight hits over his six innings of work.
(43-48) Royals - 3 at 5 - Indians (50-44)
- Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall blasted a grand slam off Jeremy Guthrie.
- Indians RP Chris Perez pitched a perfect ninth inning, preserving a two-run lead and earning his 12th save of the season.
- Indians SP Scott Kazmir pitched well, allowing two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings.
- Royals SS Alcides Escobar, back in his customary second slot in the batting order against a lefty, drove home a pair of runs.
- Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie was tagged for five runs on eight hits over seven frames.
(58-38) Red Sox - 0 at 3 - Athletics (55-39)
- Athletics SP A.J. Griffin allowed six hits over eight innings and combined with Grant Balfour in a shutout.
- Athletics C Derek Norris hit his 5th homer in the win.
- Red Sox SP Jon Lester went 6.1 innings giving up three runs and six hits in the loss.
(33-60) Astros - 3 at 4 - Rays (54-41)
- Rays SP Roberto Hernandez allowed three runs in six innings to earn the win.
- Astros 1B Brett Wallace went 1-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season.
- Astros SP Dallas Keuchel allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
- Rays DH Luke Scott went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
(44-48) Angels - 0 at 6 - Mariners (42-52)
- Mariners SP Felix Hernandez tossed eight shutout innings for his 10th victory.
- Angels SP Jered Weaver gave up four runs and nine hits over 5.2 innings.
- Mariners 1B Justin Smoak hit his 8th homer of the year.
Inter League:
(37-53) White Sox - 5 at 4 - Phillies (46-48) (Game 1) (11 innings)
(37-54) White Sox - 1 at 2 - Phillies (47-48) (Game 2) (13 innings)
- Phillies 3B Michael Young delivered a walkoff RBI single in the 13th inning.
- Phillies SP John Lannan delivered another impressive performance in a no-decision, surrendering just one run on four hits over eight strong innings.
- White Sox OF Casper Wells had a forgettable night at the plate, going 0-for-6 in a losing effort.
- White Sox SP Hector Santiago matched his season-high with nine strikeouts, but wound up with a no-decision after allowing one run on three hits and a walk in 7 1/3 innings.

- Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (hamstring) will be sidelined until after the All-Star break.
- Dodgers SP Ted Lilly (neck) threw a simulated game Friday.
- Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) received an anti-inflammatory shot last week.
- Mets RP LaTroy Hawkins (sore triceps) will not be placed on the disabled list prior to the All-Star break.
- Cubs OF Brett Jackson (right calf strain) will be sent to Chicago's facility in Arizona to begin rehabbing.
- Reds RP Jonathan Broxton (elbow) continues to long toss, but he has not yet been cleared to throw off a mound.
- Cubs SP Scott Baker (elbow) is scheduled to throw 65 pitches on Sunday with Low-A Kane County.
- OF David DeJesus (shoulder) will travel to the Cubs' facility in Arizona on Monday to begin his rehabilitation.
- Mets SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has been assigned to Double-A Binghamton on his rehab assignment.
- Pirates SP Jeff Locke will not pitch Sunday due to a sore back.
- X-rays on Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis' left leg came back negative after fouling a ball off his leg in Saturday's game.
- Mets 1B Justin Turner (intercostal) began a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie on Saturday.
- Phillies OF Ben Revere sustained a broken right foot during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox.
- Padres OF Cameron Maybin (knee) ran on Saturday for the first time since tearing his posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
American League:
- Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Saturday that OF Curtis Granderson (finger) could return in early August.
- Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) was scheduled to play with High-A Tampa on Friday night but didn't report to the ballpark.
- Yankees OF Brett Gardner (leg) went 1-for-3 with a walk in his return to the lineup Friday.
- Angels RP Sean Burnett (elbow) has yet to be cleared to throw off a mound.
- Angels SP Tommy Hanson (forearm) will throw a simulated game on Saturday.
- Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head, knee) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays.
- Rays SP Alex Cobb (concussion) will throw live batting practice Sunday.
- Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star break.
- Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.
- Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) will throw six innings or 95 pitches Thursday in a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock.
- Indians SP Trevor Bauer was scratched from his Triple-A start due to lower back spasms on Saturday.
- Angels OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) has begun running and will start hitting and throwing next week.
Notes and Rumors:
National League:
- The Braves are expected to option Alex Wood to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
- Mets manager Terry Collins said Jeremy Hefner will likely start next Friday against the Phillies.
- Pirates SP Gerrit Cole will start on Sunday against the Mets.
- OF Cole Gillespie will join the Cubs' roster on Sunday.
- RP Scott Atchison will be recalled by the Mets on Sunday.
American League:
- The Indians are considering pushing SP Justin Masterson back in their rotation due to the possibility that he'll pitch in the All-Star Game.
- Tigers RP Jose Valverde has been placed on the inactive list with Triple-A Toledo.
