Injury Updates:
National League:
- Nationals RP Ryan Mattheus is scheduled to throw off a mound Friday for the first time since he broke his hand in May.
- Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled Thursday.
- Nationals SP Lucas Giolito (elbow) lasted just one-third of an inning Wednesday for the GCL Nationals in his first start since Tommy John surgery.
- Pirates SP Phil Irwin (elbow) underwent ulnar nerve transposition surgery Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
- Padres SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) could have his return pushed back to Friday.
- Nationals SP Dan Haren (shoulder) threw a simulated game Wednesday.
- Pirates OF Jose Tabata (oblique) could be activated from the disabled list Wednesday.
- Mets SP Shaun Marcum (back) is expected to make his next start, this Saturday against the Brewers.
- Giants 2B Marco Scutaro is dealing with some minor back soreness.
- Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig has been diagnosed with a bruised left hip and thigh after X-rays on his leg came back negative.
- The Cardinals don't think the pinched nerve in OF Matt Holliday's neck will be a long-term issue.
- Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) threw an extended bullpen session on Wednesday.
- Pirates SP A.J. Burnett (calf) doesn't expect to go out on a rehab assignment.
- Padres OF Will Venable (hamstring) is expected back in the lineup on Thursday.
- Pirates RP Jared Hughes (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Thursday with no issues.
- Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) will be shut down for the next 2-3 weeks.
- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said that SP Wily Peralta (hamstring) was "iffy" to make his scheduled start on Sunday.
- Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that it's "a possibility" OF Ryan Braun (hand) could return before the All-Star break.
American League:
- Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York was told by a baseball official with knowledge of the Yankees' thinking that the team could have SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) pitch out of the bullpen during the second half.
- Angels RP Sean Burnett (elbow) hopes to resume throwing next week.
- Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) threw three bullpen sessions last week.
- Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopopulos said Tuesday that RP Luis Perez (elbow) is "pretty far away" from resuming a minor league rehab assignment.
- Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopopulos said that SP Drew Hutchison (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment "soon."
- Blue Jays SP Kyle Drabek (elbow) has allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk over 4 1/3 innings in his first two rehab appearances with High-A Dunedin.
- Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ still has some soreness in his right knee.
- Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Low-A Lansing.
- Astros OF Justin Maxwell (head) is aiming return early next week.
- Royals OF Alex Gordon left Wednesday's game with a possible concussion and a hip contusion after crashing into the wall in left field.
- X-rays on Tigers 2B Omar Infante's shin came back negative.
- White Sox pitching prospect Erik Johnson left Wednesday's start at Triple-A Charlotte with a right groin strain.
- Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday that C David Ross (concussion) has "had three or four really good days consecutively here."
- Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.
- C Jesus Montero (knee) will serve as the designated hitter on Friday for the Mariners' Arizona Rookie League team.
- Mariners C Danny Hultzen will be shut down for the next 10-14 days with left rotator cuff irritation.
- Athletics SP Jarrod Parker's (hamstring) next start has been pushed back to Saturday.
- Mariners manager Eric Wedge expects OF Michael Morse (quad) to need several rehab games before being activated.
- Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) said Wednesday that he feels like he "finally turned a corner" after throwing from 100 feet on flat ground.

National League:
- Blue Jays SP Chien-Ming Wang's agent, Alan Chang, told Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca that his client would accept an assignment to Triple-A Buffalo.
- Astros prospect right-hander Mark Appel will make his pro debut Friday with Class A Tri-City.
- Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos hasn't ruled out the possibility that SP Ricky Romero could return to the majors before September.
- The Orioles plan to keep SP Kevin Gausman in their bullpen for now.
- Athletics SP Dan Straily will be called up to start on Thursday against the Cubs.
