  • Indians 2B Jason Kipnis went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.

  • Indians RP Vinnie Pestano worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.

National League:

  • Reds RP Sean Marshall (shoulder) felt good Tuesday after pitching off flat ground.
  • Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said Wednesday that RP Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is "very unlikely" to be activated from the disabled list when he's eligible on Saturday.
  • Brewers OF Ryan Braun (thumb) isn't ready to grip a bat.
  • Cubs prospect OF Jorge Soler will have his left shin examined this week by team doctors in Chicago.
  • Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Tuesday that he's hoping C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) will be ready to return from the 15-day disabled list on July 4.
  • X-rays on Braves OF Jordan Schafer's right ankle came back negative.
  • Braves 3B Ramiro Pena will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a torn right labrum.
  • Padres SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) took ground balls, hit and ran in the outfield before Wednesday's game.
  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper (knee) left Wednesday's rehab game with High-A Potomac early after fouling a ball off his foot.
  • X-rays on Diamondbacks 2B Willie Bloomquist's left hand came back negative.
  • Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko was removed after one at-bat during his rehab game at Double-A San Antonio Wednesday after aggravated his strained right groin.
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla (knee) will face hitters on Friday.
  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that 3B Joaquin Arias (hamstring) could be placed on the disabled list if he's not feeling well enough to play by Friday.
  • Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) isn't expected to be activated from the disabled list until the second week of July.
  • Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) thinks he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation, at the very latest, just after the All-Star break.
  • Mets SP Jon Niese (shoulder) is hoping to be cleared to resume throwing after a follow-up exam next week.
  • Mets SS Ruben Tejada (quad) will begin a rehab assignment later this week for the Gulf Coast League Mets.
American League:
  • Orioles SP Dylan Bundy (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery Thursday.
  • The Yankees announced Wednesday that surgery has been recommended for 1B Mark Teixeira's right wrist.
  • Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Wednesday that SP Nick Blackburn (arm) will make his first minor league rehab start Saturday with the team's Gulf Coast League affiliate.
  • Rangers manager Ron Washington said Wednesday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that he expects SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) to return in 10-12 days.
  • Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (trapezius) will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.
  • Indians RP Chris Perez (shoulder) pitched a perfect inning Tuesday in a rehab appearance with Class A Mahoning Valley.
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas underwent surgery Wednesday to remove a blood clot from his left armpit.
  • White Sox SP Jake Peavy (rib) played catch on Wednesday.
  • Royals SP Felipe Paulino (elbow, back) will restart his rehab assignment Sunday at Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
  • Yankees SS Eduardo Nunez (oblique) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday night with High-A Tampa.
  • Angels SP Tommy Hanson (forearm) will undergo further tests on Thursday but is expected to be placed on the disabled list.
  • Astros OF Justin Maxwell (concussion) thinks he could return to the lineup on Friday.
  • Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Thursday.
  • Orioles RP Steve Johnson (oblique) moved his flat-ground throwing from 75 feet to 90 feet Wednesday.
  • Rangers SP Alexi Ogando threw another bullpen session Tuesday but admitted that his right shoulder still isn't 100 percent.
  • Indians SP Brett Myers (elbow) is currently slated to make five rehab appearances.
Notes and Rumors:

National League:
  • CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs and first-round pick third baseman Kris Bryant are "nowhere close to a deal."
  • According to ESPN's Buster Olney, there has been a breakdown in the negotiations between the Rockies and Marlins involving a trade of right-hander Ricky Nolasco.
  • Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa is batting just .106 (5-for-47) with 29 strikeouts since he's demotion to Triple-A Syracuse.
  • Giants SP Mike Kickham will make his next start on Monday in Cincinnati.
  • Diamondbacks RP Heath Bell said Wednesday that he has fixed a mechanical flaw that was leading to his recent struggles.
American League:
  • Indians SP Trevor Bauer will indeed start one half of the Indians' doubleheader Friday against the White Sox.
  • Astros SP Dallas Keuchel's next turn in the rotation will be skipped.
