  • Despite giving up a homer for a second straight outing, Cardinals RP Edward Mujica picked up his 20th save in 20 chances.
  • Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-4 and committed his fifth error in left field.
  • Cardinals SP Shelby Miller was sharp before exiting with a cramp tossing 5 innings of shutout ball for the win.
  • Cubs SP Travis Wood went 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in the loss.
  • Cardinals got a pair of RBI's from C Yadier Molina, raising his season total to 38.
(36-34) Padres - 5 at 3 - Giants (35-34) (13 innings)
(34-35) Nationals - 4 at 5 - Phillies (34-37)
  • Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 3-for-3 and hit his eighth homer.
  • Phillies SP John Lannan yielded two runs in five innings in his return to the rotation.
  • Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon took his first blown save of the year when he gave up a solo homer.
  • Nationals SP Dan Haren gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings in a no-decision.
(25-40) Mets - 1 at 2 - Braves (42-28)
  • Mets OF Lucas Duda went 4-for-4 with a double.
  • Mets SP Dillon Gee was slapped with a loss despite pitching a gem, allowing two runs over 8 1/3 innings.
  • Braves 1B Freddie Freeman delivered a walk-off two-run homer.
(22-47) Marlins - 3 at 2 - Diamondbacks (37-33)
  • Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin hurled eight innings of two-run ball in a no-decision.
  • Marlins SP Jacob Turner allowed two runs on six hits over five innings.
  • Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton swatted a pair of home runs.
  • Diamondbacks RP Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a ninth inning solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in a tie game Monday.

American League:

(40-31) Orioles - 1 at 5 - Tigers (39-29)
  • Tigers SP Max Scherzer pitched six innings of one-run ball and struck out 10.
  • Tigers RP Drew Smyly pitched three perfect innings for his second career save.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera busted out of a minislump by going 3-for-4 and hitting his 19th homer.
  • Tigers 2B Omar Infante went 4-for-4 and swiped his third base.
  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis went 2-for-4 and homered.
  • Orioles OF Chris Dickerson struck out all three times he was up before being removed for a pinch-hitter.
(34-34) Royals - 2 at 1 - Indians (34-35)
  • Royals RP Greg Holland pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for the save.
  • Back from his seven-game suspension, Indians SP Carlos Carrasco lasted 7 1/3 innings and allowed just one run.
  • Royals 3B Mike Moustakas went 0-for-3 and was removed for a pinch-hitter.
(42-30) Athletics - 7 at 8 - Rangers (39-31)
  • Rangers OF Nelson Cruz homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs.
  • Rangers SP Nick Tepesch lasted just 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs.
  • Athletics SP Dan Straily was tagged for six runs and two homers in 4 2/3 innings.
  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski had a two-run homer and an RBI double.
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
(31-40) Mariners - 3 at 11 - Angels (31-39)
  • Angels SP Jason Vargas whiffed a season-best nine batters and surrendered a mere two runs over seven innings.
  • Angels OF Josh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI.
  • Angels DH Albert Pujols went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Mariners SP Aaron Harang was tagged for four runs on 12 hits in five innings.
(29-38) White Sox - 4 at 2 - Astros (26-45)
  • White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo tripled with the bases loaded in the sixth.
  • Astros OF Brandon Barnes went 3-for-5 with a couple of steals.
  • White Sox RP Addison Reed picked up his 20th save of the year.
  • Astros OF Brandon Barnes had an excellent night collecting 3 hits and stealing 2 bags.
  • White Sox RP Jesse Crain continued his superb season picking up his 18th hold while lowering his ERA to 0.57 with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Inter League:
(37-34) Rockies - 0 at 2 - Blue Jays (33-36)
  • Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis singled in Rajai Davis and Colby Rasmus in the bottom of the eighth.
  • After having his start pushed back by a blister, Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson struck out 10 over 7 1/3 scoreless innings.
  • Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa came out after allowing one hit over seven scoreless innings.
Player Transactions:

National League:
  • Phillies activated LHP John Lannan from the 15-day disabled list.
  • Phillies placed LHP Jeremy Horst on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow strain.
  • Nationals released RHP Matt Torra.
  • Padres released RHP Daniel Stange.
American League:
  • Tigers recalled OF Avisail Garcia from Triple-A Toledo.
  • Tigers recalled C Bryan Holaday from Triple-A Toledo.
  • Tigers placed C Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list with a deep contusion on his left forearm.
  • Tigers placed RHP Anibal Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with a right shoulder strain.
  • Yankees signed 1B Randy Ruiz to a minor league contract.
  • Indians optioned RHP Matt Langwell to Triple-A Columbus.
  • Orioles optioned RHP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Mets 1B Justin Turner is dealing with an intercostal issue and may have to be placed on the disabled list.
  • Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) could begin a minor league rehab assignment as early as Tuesday night.
  • Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) might be moved to the bullpen when he is activated from the disabled list.
  • Cubs OF David DeJesus was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain following an MRI on Monday.
  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) felt good during a bullpen session on Monday.
  • Mets prospect catcher C Travis d'Arnaud (foot) has been cleared to begin running.
  • Cardinals RP Fernando Salas (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week with Triple-A Memphis.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday that SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) "felt good" while throwing off the mound Monday.
  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper (knee) has been cleared to resume strengthening activities.
  • Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that SP Chris Carpenter felt some back stiffness during a long bullpen session.
  • Cardinals SP Shelby Miller left Monday's start after five innings with a right leg cramp.
  • Giants RP Santiago Casilla (knee) is expected to throw off a mound within the next week.
  • Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) is close to beginning a rehab assignment.
  • Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (foot) could begin a rehab assignment at High-A San Jose on Friday.
  • Marlins OF Chris Coghlan has been instructed to continue resting his ailing back after visiting with a specialist.
  • Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is expected to need two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
  • Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong will have an exam on Tuesday in hopes that he'll be allowed to remove two of the five pins from his surgically-repaired right hand.
  • Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (thumb) said he expects to return to the Giants' lineup "soon."

  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson will have the pin removed from his fractured left pinkie finger this Thursday.
  • Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head) will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow (forearm) will make his first minor league rehab start Monday with High-A Dunedin.
  • Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Dunedin.
  • Indians RP Chris Perez (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.
  • Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) threw another bullpen session on Monday afternoon in Sarasota, Florida.
  • Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) is scheduled to face live pitching for the first time this year on Tuesday in Tampa.
  • Yankees SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) will make his next rehab start on Thursday for the High-A Tampa Yankees.
  • Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Monday that he is "leaning personally" toward placing first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list.
  • White Sox OF Dewayne Wise (hamstring) is 1-for-7 with a run scored through two rehab games at Triple-A Charlotte.
  • Rays SP Alex Cobb (concussion) will not travel with the Rays on their upcoming seven-game road trip.
  • Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli (illness) is feeling much better and is likely to play at least one game in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.
  • Rangers SP Matt Harrison played catch Monday for the first time since his back surgery.
  • White Sox SP Jake Peavy (rib) has yet to be cleared for conditioning work.
  • Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that SP Jason Hammel (illness) is unlikely to start Tuesday against the Tigers.
  • Indians 1B Nick Swisher received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder and is likely to be sidelined until at least Friday.
  • Rangers RP Joakim Soria (elbow, pectoral) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Thursday.
  • Mariners OF Jason Bay is nursing a sore hamstring.
  • Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) threw off a mound on Monday.
  • Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) remains limited to flat ground throwing.
  • Royals SP Felipe Paulino (elbow) was scratched from a scheduled rehab start on Sunday due to back stiffness.
  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) could resume throwing from a mound by this weekend or early next week.

National League:
  • RP Cory Rasmus will serve as the Braves' 26th man during Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.
  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post suspects that Rockies SP Roy Oswalt will start Thursday against the Nationals.
  • According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Mets do not expect to trade RP Bobby Parnell.
  • Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday that SS Jordy Mercer will receive the bulk of the playing time at shortstop moving forward.
  • Cardinals RHP Tyler Lyons is expected to start on Friday against the Rangers.
  • Pirates agreed to terms with first-round pick C Reese McGuire.
  • Diamondbacks RP Randall Delgado will be called up from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday against the Marlins.
  • Reds manager Dusty Baker confirmed Monday that SP Tony Cingrani will remain in the majors as a reliever.
  • Diamondbacks SP Ian Kennedy has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it on Monday.
  • The Marlins have demoted SP Kevin Slowey to the bullpen.
American League:
  • The Tigers will call up left-hander Jose Alvarez to start Thursday against the Red Sox.
  • Tigers agreed to terms with competitive balance pick RHP Corey Knebel.
  • Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves will start the first half of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Rays.
  • Yankees agreed to terms with supplemental first-round draft pick LHP Ian Clarkin.
  • Rays SP Jake Odorizzi will start the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
  • Orioles SP Zach Britton will be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Tuesday against the Tigers.
  • Rangers manager Ron Washington said Monday that the club plans to make 2B Jurickson Profar a "functional left fielder."
  • Trevor Crowe has taken over as the Astros' starter in right field for the time being.
