National League:

  • SP Brandon McCarthy was tagged for six runs and nine hits in five-plus innings by the Cardinals in his Diamondbacks debut.

  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn was charged with four runs in four-plus innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

  • Mitchell Boggs blew his first save chance for the Cardinals after giving up a run in the 12th to the Diamondbacks.

  • Giants SP Tim Lincecum walked seven in five innings but still came away with the win after allowing just a pair of unearned runs against the Dodgers.

  • Dodgers SP Josh Beckett yielded five runs -- three earned -- in six innings in a loss to the Giants.

  • Dodgers OF Carl Crawford went 3-for-4 with a walk from the leadoff spot against the Giants.

  • Dodgers OF Matt Kemp went 0-for-4 and finished 0-for-10 in the series against the Giants.

  • C Wilin Rosario registered three hits, including a two-run home run, in the Rockies' 7-3 victory over the Brewers.

  • SP Juan Nicasio limited the Brewers to two runs through six innings in the Rockies' win.

  • SP Wily Peralta allowed six hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings in the Brewers' loss to the Rockies.

  • SP Gio Gonzalez pitched six scoreless innings and hit the game-winning home run to help the Nationals defeat the Marlins 3-0.

  • SP Kevin Slowey allowed just one run over 5 1/3 innings Wednesday but received the loss as the Marlins were defeated by the Nationals.

  • RP Rafael Soriano moved to 2-for-2 in save opportunities in the Nationals win over the Marlins.

  • OF Jason Heyward went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Braves' 9-2 win over the Phillies.

  • SP Roy Halladay allowed six hits and five runs over 3 1/3 innings in the Phillies loss to the Braves.

  • SP Paul Maholm went 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the Braves' win over the Phillies.

  • 1B Joey Votto hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Reds defeated the Angels 5-4.

  • Reds SP Mat Latos allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Angels.

  • SP Wandy Rodriguez held the Cubs scoreless over 6 2/3 innings on just two hits and a walk in the Pirates 3-0 victory.

  • Pirates RP Jason Grilli struck out two in a perfect inning against the Cubs to record his first save of the season.

  • Cubs SP Edwin Jackson lasted only five innings against the Pirates but limited them to two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five in a loss.

  • SP Matt Harvey struck out 10 batters over seven scoreless innings in the Mets' 8-4 win over the Padres.

  • OF Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer, his first of the year, in helping the Mets beat the Padres.

  • SP Clayton Richard allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- in 4 1/3 innings in the Padres' loss to the Mets.

American League:

  • SP Tommy Milone limited the Mariners to a couple of solo homers in seven innings during Oakland's 6-2 win.

  • SP Joe Saunders lost his Mariners debut after allowing four runs in four innings against the A's.

  • Batting second, SS Jed Lowrie homered and doubled twice against the Mariners.

  • OF Chris Young homered and walked against the Mariners in his first start of the season.

  • SP Clay Buchholz spun seven frames of one-run ball in the Red Sox 7-4 win over the Yankees.

  • RP Joel Hanrahan tossed a scoreless ninth inning to nail down his first save of the season in a win over the Yankees.

  • Red Sox OF Daniel Nava went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in club's victory over the Yankees.

  • 1B Mark Reynolds hit a game-winning home run in the top of the 11th inning as the Indians beat the Blue Jays 3-2 in Toronto.

  • OF Vernon Wells went 3-for-4 and clubbed his first homer as a Yankee in the club's loss to the Red Sox.

  • SP Brandon Morrow went six innings, allowing only one run, but took a no-decision in the Blue Jays' loss to the Indians.

  • SP Ubaldo Jimenez allowed just one run over six innings in the Indians' win over the Blue Jays.

  • SP C.J. Wilson allowed four runs -- three earned -- in six innings against the Reds.

  • OF Matt Joyce hit a walk-off solo home run to give the Rays an 8-7 win over the Orioles.

  • 1B Chris Davis had four hits, including a three-run homer, in the Orioles' loss to the Rays.

  • SP Wei-Yin Chen allowed only two runs over 5 2/3 innings but took the no-decision in the Orioles' loss to the Rays.

  • SP Jeremy Hellickson allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Orioles.

  • Twins SP Kevin Correia was solid in a no-decision, giving up two runs over seven innings in a 3-2 win over the Tigers.

  • SP Anibal Sanchez tossed five scoreless innings on two hits and three walks in the Tigers loss to the Twins.

  • Tigers RP Phil Coke blew his first save of the season, allowing a walk-off, two-run double.

  • INF Eduardo Escobar won it for the Twins with a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth against the Tigers.

  • Miguel Cabrera drove in the Tigers' only two runs in the clubs loss to the Twins.

  • SP Alexi Ogando struck out 10 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings in defeating the Astros.

  • Astros SP Philip Humber allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rangers.

  • Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland ended the series against the Astros 0-for-11 after going hitless again.

  • Astros OF Chris Carter went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to finish hitless in the series against the Rangers.

  • SP Jake Peavy held the Royals to two runs -- one earned -- in six innings in the White Sox's 5-2 victory.

  • Making his Royals debut, Ervin Santana gave up three homers and four runs in six innings on his way to taking a loss against the White Sox.

  • White Sox C Tyler Flowers went 2-for-3 and homered in a second straight game against the Royals.

  • White Sox DH Adam Dunn homered, singled and scored twice in Chicago's win over the Royals.

  • Yankees released LHP Clay Rapada.

  • Indians claimed RHP Robert Whitenack off waivers from the Cubs; optioned him to Double-A Akron.

  • Athletics designated RHP Josh Stinson for assignment.

  • Athletics claimed RHP Will Harris off waivers from the Rockies; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Tigers claimed RHP Evan Reed off waivers from the Marlins; optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

Injury Updates:

National League:
  • Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley (finger) will make a rehab start with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks OF Adam Eaton (elbow) will hit in the batting cage Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks 3B Eric Chavez was replaced in the 13th inning Wednesday after getting hit in the hand by a pitch in the 12th.
  • Marlins 1B Casey Kotchman has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day.

  • Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat) will throw a bullpen session over the weekend.

  • Giants 1B Brandon Belt (illness) was out of the Giants' lineup for the second straight game.

  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton (elbow) threw a 35-pitch simulated game Wednesday.
  • Giants 1B Brett Pill (knee) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Fresno.

  • Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) could begin throwing off flat ground by the end of this week.

  • Reds placed OF Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 2, with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

  • Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) threw an inning in a simulated game Tuesday in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

  • Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated that 3B David Freese (back) may not be ready for the team's home opener on April 8.

American League:
  • X-rays on Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda's right middle finger have come back clean and he is listed as day-to-day.
  • Mariners SP Erasmo Ramirez will start the season on the disabled list with Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Yankees SP Phil Hughes (back) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) threw a light 15-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Indians SP Scott Kazmir (abdomen) will not start Saturday.

  • Red Sox DH David Ortiz (heels) is expected to begin playing in extended spring training games on Monday. Red Sox manager John Farrell said on WEEI on Wednesday that the "middle of the month" is a realistic timeframe for Ortiz to be activated from the disabled list.

  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (concussion) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday at Double-A Portland.
  • Twins RP Anthony Swarzak (ribs) will have his rehab delayed a couple of days after he had his wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday.

  • Indians transferred RHP Frank Herrmann from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

  • Yankees prospect RHP Ty Hensley will miss 2-3 months following surgery Wednesday to correct an impingement in his right hip.

  • Twins SP Cole De Vries (forearm) threw a bullpen session Wednesday which Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said "just went OK."

  • Rangers SP Yu Darvish is dealing with a small blister on his right ring finger, but he's still expected to make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Angels.

  • SP Alex White said Tuesday night that the Astros are waiting for an MRI of his right elbow to be examined by Dr. James Andrews.

Notes and Rumors:

National League:

  • 2B Brandon Phillips will take over the cleanup spot for the Reds following OF Ryan Ludwick's shoulder injury.
  • Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that SP Clayton Kershaw's agent, Casey Close, was at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, but a new deal with the Dodgers doesn't appear imminent.

American League:
  • CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that SS Elvis Andrus could earn a maximum of $146.275 million as part of his new agreement with the Rangers. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal also reports that Andrus can opt out of his new contract after the 2018 or 2019 season.
  • Blue Jays C Henry Blanco will catch SP R.A. Dickey's next start.

  • Rays INF Kelly Johnson made his first major league start at first base Wednesday against the Orioles.
