Your theory that the Royals viewed Myers as a third round pick when they drafted him doesn't wash...they said at the time that they felt he was a first rounder and would have taken him in the first round had Aaron Crow not been available.
They gave him (IIRC) first round money, He was available in the third as he had what was thought of as a pretty strong college commitment.
