October 9, 2012 BP AnnouncementsDiamond Dollars Baseball Case CompetitionOur good friend Vince Gennaro from the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) is teaming up with New York University to host a baseball case competition on November 2nd. Check out the details below and be sure to sign up soon if you're interested. The Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management of the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) is partnering with Vince Gennaro, consultant to MLB teams and author of Diamond Dollars: The Economics of Winning in Baseball, to offer a unique case competition for undergraduate and graduate students from area colleges and universities. The NYU-SCPS Tisch Center will host the one-day event on November 2 and also will enter a student team to compete.
The Diamond Dollars Baseball Case Competition will be centered upon a case that was developed by Gennaro and will reflect the types of complex decisions with which MLB general managers are faced, such as a free agent signing, a key roster move, or a trade decision. The judging panel for the event will consist of MLB team executives and members of the media. Student teams will be provided with the case several days in advance of the event in order to analyze the issues and develop a presentation that will be submitted to the judging panel.
"The NYU-SCPS Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management is proud to be working with Vince Gennaro on such an innovative initiative–one that will serve as a unique opportunity to showcase exceptional work by an elite group of aspiring baseball scholars," said Wayne McDonnell, a clinical associate professor of Sports Management at the NYU-SCPS Tisch Center and NYU’s “Business of Baseball” professor.
"I successfully launched the Case Competition at the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Analytics Conference last March. Students viewed it as an opportunity to demonstrate their skills, their business acumen, and their level of passion for the game, to big-league executives. Teams viewed it as a scouting expedition for future analytical talent," asserted Gennaro.

I've tried off and on for a few years to see if BP wanted to do an event at my high school in Aurora, the Illinois Math and Science Academy. They have research days throughout the school year and summer camps for Illinois children and BP is/was based in Chicago.
