Earlier this week, I got it in my mind that I finally needed to buy a real, actual (nice) stopwatch. Remembering that our very own Kevin Goldstein has a very strong opinion about what the best stopwatch is, I went searching for a tweet I remembered him sending out once where he voiced that opinion (I know, I know, I was shocked to see Kevin voice an opinion too!).

Here's that tweet I found, complete with the proper stopwatch make and model:

Lucky for me, Amazon sells that exact stopwatch. The page looks like this:

As I was getting ready to place the order, I noticed something interesting about the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." section. See if you can find what I'm talking about.

There's a big hint there. How about the next one?

Even better. More?

And it continues! How about the last one?

You know, I've always wondered how well Amazon's "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." section really worked. I'm a believer now!

And now Kevin has one more thing to add to his resume: trendsetter.

I bought it when Kevin originally recommended it on the podcast. Last year, I was a volunteer for my daughter's home gymnastics meet, and I was responsible for timing team warmups. When they tried to assign me one of their cheap orange stopwatches, I politely declined and produced my own green Accusplit. It did not provoke the type of reverential response I anticipated, but the stopwatch worked beautifully.

Considering that it was me that asked KG the question, and I did eventually purchase it from Amazon (.com, as they don't stock it in .ca), I should also point out that, at one time or another, I have also purchased through Amazon the 4th item on page 1, the 1st, 2nd and 4th items on page 2 (and I really should get the 3rd), the first two items on page 3 and the 1st item on page 4.

In addition to the AX725, I've purchased about 7 more of the listed items from Amazon. However, they should also list Disgaea 4 and Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4.

The scouts I sat with usually have more than one stopwatch. You want someone you just ran into can have one too if she/he forgot theirs, or if the reliable stopwatch actually broke.

I bought the Billy Bean autobiography on Amazon (the gay baseball player, not the Oakland GM).

A few weeks later, Amazon sent me a "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." e-mail for Brokeback Mountain.
