Trot Times for July 29

It may have been a fun weekend for some baseball fans out there - Hanley Ramirez's go-ahead blast for the Dodgers, Ike Davis's three home runs on Saturday, another blast from Adam Dunn - but I can't help but focus on the horrific Nationals/Brewers game I was at yesterday. Francisco Rodriguez ruins an eighth-inning four run lead, John Axford blows two different leads, back-to-back home runs from Norichika Aoki and Carlos Gomez are wasted... and the worst thing is, this is routine these days for the Brewers. Not a lot of fun to be at a game like that.

Well, let's get to the trots.

Home Run of the Day: Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs - 22.54 seconds [video]
Sorry, Michael Morse, but I'd rather not think about that game any more. Luckily, Chicago's star-of-the-future hit a tenth-inning walkoff blast on Sunday afternoon. That's a pretty solid entry for Home Run of the Day.

Slowest Trot: Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers #1 - 26.3 seconds [video]
It was a two home run day for Peralta. The second trot was 23.57 seconds, a much more standard time. The 26.3 seconds of his first trot even beat out Chipper Jones for the slowest of the day by more than a second (Chipper came around in 25.16 seconds).

Quickest Trot: Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers - 16.64 seconds [video]
Gomez is having quite a week. Not only does he have four home runs over the last seven days or so, he now also has four of the six quickest tater trots of the season. And that's with Gomez moving a little slow out of the box at the start of the trot and slowing down a step or two at the end. Amazing. Keep it up!
