Tater Trot Tracker
Trot Times for April 22
by Larry Granillo
Three games on the East Coast were postponed on Sunday. And I do mean the whole coast; games in Boston, New York, and D.C. were postponed. That's not an isolated storm. Still, that means there were 12 games played throughout the league yesterday, but, somehow, only 10 home runs were hit. That's pretty remarkable. It's just one of those things that happens in a 162-game schedule, I suppose.
Let's get to the trots!
Home Run of the Day: Gerardo Parra, Arizona Diamondbacks - 22.23 seconds [video]
A grand slam for Parra gave the D-Backs a 5-1 lead in the second inning. The Braves would chip away at the lead throughout the game but would never quite get there. Arizona won the game 6-4.
Slowest Trot: Jordan Schafer, Houston Astros - 26.97 seconds [video]
A 27-second trot from Jordan Schafer seems awfully strange, especially when you consider that Carlos Lee's earlier home run took "only" 26.48 seconds. Watching the video, though, you can't really fault Schafer. The grand slam was a sky-high pop-up that cleared the right-field fence by about six inches. Los Angeles right fielder Andre Ethier jumped for the ball and very nearly caught it. Wandy Rodriguez was on first and, presumably, stayed there until he knew the ball was gone. Rodriguez then walked home. Rodriguez's slow trot from first to home forced Schafer to move even slower, giving him the day's slowest trot.
Quickest Trot: Howie Kendrick, Los Angeles Angels - 19.39 seconds [video]
The only trot to come in under 20 seconds. Kendrick would have had a quicker time if he hadn't pulled up his last two steps before touching the plate (a common move for players returning to the third-base dugout).
