Tater Trot Tracker

Trot Times for April 13

by Larry Granillo

Trots are coming up late this afternoon, so let's not waste any time. On to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: Chase Headley, San Diego Padres - 20.35 seconds [video]
In the end, it was all for naught, as San Diego's bullpen literally couldn't find the strike zone, walking four straight batters in the bottom of the ninth to give the Dodgers their walkoff-walk victory. But until that utter failure, Chase Headley's game-tying, top-of-the-ninth, two-run home run was something worth celebrating. Earlier in the game, Los Angeles' Aaron Harang had struck out nine consecutive Padres, making the friars look punchless. Headley's clutch home run did a lot to erase that from people's memories, even if Cashner and Thatcher only ruined it minutes later.

Slowest Trot: Bryan LaHair, Chicago Cubs - 27.61 seconds [video]
It was not a good start for St. Louis' Adam Wainwright, who exited the game after only three innings and with the Cards losing 8-0. This grand slam from LaHair in the third inning helped send Wainwright to the showers early. The home run itself was a bit of a surprise, as it merely looked like a long flyball to center before it found its way over the bullpen fence in left-center. It was so surprising, in fact, that LaHair wasn't even sure it had cleared the fence. As he rounded first, LaHair slowed down and asked the umpires if it was a home run. That slow-down certainly contributed to his season-leading slow trot, but it wasn't enough to blame the entire trot on. LaHair has the slowest trot of this young season because he felt like moving slowly, not because he was slightly unsure if it was over the fence.

Quickest Trot: Curtis Granderson, New York Yankees - 18.65 seconds [video]
It's always nice to see Curtis Granderson back at the top of these lists. I don't know if we'll be seeing 40 more trots this year like we did last year, but any Granderson trot is worth watching. Only slightly behind Granderson for the quickest trot of the night was San Diego's Will Venable, who cross home at Dodger Stadium in 18.81 seconds.
