Tater Trot Tracker
Trot Times for August 25
by Larry Granillo
Let's get right to the trots!
Home Run of the Day: Curtis Granderson, New York Yankees - 18.96 seconds [video]
The A's were winning this game pretty handily at the start, with a 7-1 lead as early as the third inning. But then the Yankees kept putting runners on base and loading the bases... and loading the bases.... and loading the bases. By the time Granderson hit the club's third grand slam of the game in the eighth inning, it was 21-8 (the game would end 22-9). It was the first time in major league history that a team had ever hit three grand slams in one game. Considering Fernando Tatis once hit two grand slams by himself in one inning, that's just a remarkable statistic. Russell Martin and Robinson Cano were the other two slammers on Thursday.
Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox - 27.67 seconds [video]
It's always nice to see Big Papi back in his rightful place. Also from this Red Sox game were two home runs by Adrian Gonzalez, his fourth and fifth in three games. My favorite of Gonzalez's home runs was this one, which makes Dustin Pedroia look exactly like a leprechaun.
Quickest Trot: Austin Jackson, Detroit Tigers - 18.14 seconds [video]
It's a great day when there are three different people competing for Quickest Trot with 18-second dashes. Austin Jackson takes the cake, but only by nudging out Marlon Byrd and, to a greater degree, Curtis Granderson.
