Minor League Update: Games of July 26

• Matt Adams, 1B, Cardinals (Double-A Springfield): 2-for-4, HR (24), R, 2 RBI, K. Three home runs in last four games as he's showing no sign of slowing down; .337/.383/.641 in 77 games.
• Noel Arguelles, LHP, Royals (High-A Wilmington): 7 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Took no-hitter into seventh to lower ERA to 2.89; success remains based far more on location than stuff.
• Dante Bichette, 3B, Yankees (Rookie-level GCL): 4-for-4, 2B, R, RBI. Hottest hitter in the Gulf Coast League; 19-for-27 (.704) over the last week and up to .333/.470/.510 overall.
• Xander Bogaerts, SS, Red Sox (Low-A Greenville): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (7), 3 R, 3 RBI, K. Bat had collapsed after quick start; snaps out of 1-for-27 slump to get averages up to .221/.302/.450.
• Chris Dwyer, LHP, Royals (Double-A Northwest Arkansas): 8 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K. Best start of season in what has been otherwise ugly year; 6.34 ERA in 20 starts.
• Scooter Gennett, 2B, Brewers (High-A Brevard County): 3-for-5, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, CS. Tiny infielder is starting to show the bat we saw last year in the Midwest League; .346 in 29 games since the All-Star game and .292/.328/.386 overall.
• Justin Germano, RHP, Indians (Triple-A Columbus): 9 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Sure it's just Justin Germano, but perfect games are cool.
• Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Diamondbacks (Double-A Mobile): 1-for-2, HR (30), 3 R, 3 RBI, 3 BB. First minor leaguer to 30 home runs; .306/.430/.635 in 99 games.
• Yasmani Grandal, C, Reds (Double-A Carolina): 2-for-3, 2 2B, R, RBI. Just one home run in 21 games since leaving Bakersfield; .280/.337/.440 in 21 Southern League games.
• Chris Hawkins, OF, Blue Jays (Rookie-level Bluefield): 3-for-4, 2B, 3B, HR (5), 2 R, 5 RBI; 0-for-2, K, SB, CS. 2010 third-rounder is highly-athletic outfielder with power and speed; .305/.333/.547 in 35 games.
• L.J. Hoes, 2B, Orioles (Double-A Bowie): 2-for-3, 2 HR (2), 2 R, 3 RBI. Went 54 Eastern League games without a home run and then he hits two; .310/.359/.389 overall as slugging jumps 34 points.
• Manny Machado, SS, Orioles (High-A Frederick): 2-for-4, 2B, 3B, R, RBI. Hitting .333 in July and up to .278/.353/.456 overall; could be in Double-A next year as a 19-year-old.
• Brett Marshall, RHP, Yankees (High-A Tampa): 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K. 0.90 ERA in last four starts while striking out 25 over 20 innings; has allowed one or fewer earned runs in 11 of last 15 starts.
• Starling Marte, OF, Pirates (Double-A Altoona): 3-for-5, HR (7), R, 2 RBI, K, CS. Home runs in back-to-back games.
• Carlos Martinez, RHP, Cardinals (High-A Palm Beach): 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K. Bounces back from last start of the year; still needs to refine command to really take off.
• Francisco Martinez, 3B, Tigers (Double-A Erie): 4-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI, K. Has cooled off a bit; .286/.324/.413 in 89 games.
• J.D. Martinez, OF, Astros (Double-A Corpus Christi): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (12), 3 R, 2 RBI. Last year's Sally League MVP is hitting like that at Double-A now; .361/.450/.685 in 30 games since All-Star break.
• Tyler Matzek, RHP, Rockies (Low-A Asheville): 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 8 K. Clearly progress here in terms of both velocity and command.
• Tommy Mendonca, 3B, Rangers (Double-A Frisco): 2-for-4, HR (21), 2 R, RBI. Power, good defense and tons of strikeouts (108 in 88 games); .306/.367/.557 overall.
• Brett Mitchell, RHP, Mets (Rookie-level Kingsport): 6.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 10 K. 2010 draftee with plus breaking ball; 3.41 ERA in six starts with 35 Ks in 31.2 IP.
• Jesus Montero, C, Yankees (Triple-A Scranton): 3-for-4, 2B, HR (10), R, 4 RBI, K. Done pouting? 7-for-12 with 16 total bases in last three games to raise line to .291/.350/.444 overall.
• Derek Norris, C, Nationals (Double-A Harrisburg): 1-for-3, HR (13), R, 2 RBI, BB. Overall line of .217/.375/.443 is among the hardest to evaluate in the minors.
• Kyle Parker, OF, Rockies (Low-A Asheville): 1-for-1, HR (17), 3 R, RBI, 2 BB; 0-for-3. Hit five home runs in four games before game two; .285/.361/.495 overall in 87 games.
• Wily Peralta, RHP, Huntsville (Double-A Huntsville): 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K. Has allowed just thrrr earned runs over 34 innings in last five starts to lower ERA to 3.45.
• Martin Perez, LHP, Rangers (Triple-A Round Rock): 5 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Pacific Coast League is hitting .431 against him after three starts.
• Anthony Rizzo, 1B, Padres (Triple-A Tucson): 3-for-4, 2B, HR (18), R, 4 RBI. Tucson sure is a fun place to hit.
• Eddie Rosario, OF, Twins (Rookie-level Elizabethton): 2-for-5, 3B, R, RBI, K. Three straight multi-hit games have OPS into the four digit world at .312/.375/.638.
• Gary Sanchez, C, Yankees (Low-A Charleston): 1-for-3, HR (10), R, 2 RBI, BB. Home run of Jameson Taillon was first in 11 games; .240/.322/.415 overall.
• Jonathan Schoop, 2B, Orioles (High-A Frederick): 4-for-4, HR (1), 2 R, 2 RBI, SB. First home run in 39 Carolina League games; .238/.307/.298 overall.
• Kyle Seager, 3B, Mariners (Triple-A Tacoma): 2-for-3, 2 BB. Triple-A line is a silly .432/.500/.635 in 17 games.
• Tyler Skaggs, LHP, Diamondbacks (Double-A Mobile): 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 6 K. Best of three Double-A starts and 18 strikeouts over 15.2 innings overall.
• Henry Sosa, RHP, Astros (Double-A Corpus Christi): 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 9 K. ERA of 0.00 in 14 innings since trades from Giants; also turns 26 tomorrow.
• Trevor Story, SS, Rockies (Rookie-level Casper): 3-for-5, HR (2), R, 4 RBI, K. Supplemental first-round pick has true shortstop tools, plus speed and a quick bat; .267/.377/.400 in first 13 games.
• Matt Szczur, OF, Cubs (High-A Daytona): 2-for-3, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI. OPS up 165 points in two games; .270/.303/.460 in 14 games since promotion.
• Jameson Taillon, RHP, Pirates (Low-A West Virginia): 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Most impressive part of season is 67 strikeouts and just ten walks in 65.2 innings; but has been surprisingly hittable.
• Julio Teheran, RHP, Braves (Triple-A Gwinnett): 6 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K. Stuff has been outstanding of late; allowed four earned runs over 31 innings in last six outings; 1.67 ERA in 107.2 innings.
• Donavan Tate, OF, Padres (Short-season Eugene): 2-for-3, R, BB, K, SB, CS. Has been back from suspension for three days; still just 20 years old and plenty toolsy.
• Christian Villanueva, 3B, Rangers (Low-A Hickory): 1-for-2, HR (13), R, RBI, BB. Power starting to go from raw to in-game; .274/.337/.467 in 92 games.
• Christian Yelich, OF, Marlins (Low-A Greensboro): 3-for-4, 2B, R, K; 1-for-3, 2B, BB, K. Hitting .361/.440/.569 in July and .299/.375/.461 overall; bat earns rave reviews, but athleticism has been a surprise with 26 stolen bases in 30 attempts.
