Tater Trot Tracker
Trot Times for June 23
by Larry Granillo
Five games were played on Thursday. Home runs were hit in only two of them. Unsurprisingly, there's not a lot to say about the five home runs hit yesterday.
Let's get to the trots.
Home Run of the Day: Carlos Ruiz, Philadelphia Phillies - 22.5 seconds [video]
The Cardinals destroyed the Phillies in Tuesday's game, winning 12-2 after a six-run eighth-inning. Neither Berkman's nor Jay's home runs were all that important in the long run. Ruiz gets the honor here because I like how angry Jason Motte gets after giving up a home run that changed the score from 12-1 to 12-2 in the ninth inning. He does not tolerate failure, apparently.
Slowest Trot: Miguel Montero, Arizona Diamondbacks - 24.73 seconds [video]
When there are only five home runs, someone has to be the slowest even if he wasn't all that slow. Montero's near-25 second trot fits well, though. While he probably wouldn't have been the slowest on the majority of nights, it would be pretty close.
Quickest Trot: Jon Jay, St. Louis Cardinals - 20.52 seconds [video]
Jay got the scoring going with one out in the bottom of the first inning. The Cards would need a couple more than that to secure the victory, but it was essentially over from the moment Jay began his sprint. It's rare that a 20-second trot wins the day, but it's understandable in this context.
All of Today's Trots
Miguel Montero...24.73
Juan Miranda.....23.48
Carlos Ruiz......22.5
Lance Berkman....22.37
Jon Jay..........20.52
