Tater Trot Tracker

Trot Times for May 10

by Larry Granillo

We've had so many days recently of only fifteen or twenty home runs hit around the league that I forgot what a real day's worth of home runs looks like. There were thirty hit throughout the league on Tuesday, though. And while that's far from the most we've had on a single day this year, it's certainly more along the lines of what we should expect. But I'm not complaining - it was a fun night for home runs!

Let's get to the trots!

Home Run of the Day: David Cooper, Toronto Blue Jays - 19.92 seconds [video]
Cooper wasn't the only player to hit his first major league home run on Tueday (Minnesota's Rene Tosoni did as well), but his was a much more interesting night. Not only did Cooper's home run break a tie and give the Blue Jays the lead in the eighth inning, but, when he batted again in the tenth inning after the Red Sox had tied it up, Cooper delivered the game-winning run by driving in Rajai Davis with a sacrifice fly. Not too shabby for the kid.

Slowest Trot: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox - 26.73 seconds [video]
There were six home runs total in that Red Sox/Blue Jays game (including two from Adrian Gonzalez), so the fans in Toronto got quite the show. The leading showman was, as always, Big Papi. Gonzalez and J.P. Arencibia weren't too far behind, though, with each of the two coming in with 25-second trots.

Quickest Trot: Martin Prado, Atlanta Braves - 18.49 seconds [video]
I don't know what got into Martin Prado on this blast, but he raced around the bases. It was a low line drive to left that barely cleared the wall, so maybe he was just hustling out of the box and then decided to keep on running. Seth Smith and Rene Tosoni also put in some 18-second trots on Tuesday.
