Tater Trot Tracker

Trot Times for May 1

by Larry Granillo

Sunday afternoon was a normal day of springtime baseball, with 28 teams playing in the beautiful sunshine. For the Sunday Night Baseball game, the Mets and Phillies played a tight game in Citizens Bank Ballpark until some big news broke, changing the tenor of the day and, specifically, the game in a way no one saw coming.

Home Run of the Day: Barack Obama, United States President - 12.57 seconds [video]
Speaking to the nation and the world last night, President Barack Obama, the third year star, knocked one out of the park. Upon completion of his speech, the President's trot back to his office was a brisk, but confident, 12.57 seconds as the onlookers celebrated.

Slowest Trot: Hanley Ramirez, Florida Marlins - 27.83 seconds [video]
What in the world got into the water in Cincinnati? The Reds and Marlins combined for seven home runs on Sunday, with many being on the slow side. Hanley Ramirez and Greg Dobbs (25.98 seconds), however, were on the *very* slow side. For Ramirez, it was his first home run of the year (and it was an absolute bomb). Mike Stanton (hitting onto the riverboat in centerfield) and Emilio Bonifacio (his second career home run, though his first was an inside-the-park home run in 2009) also hit some memorable home runs.

Quickest Trot: Mark Teixeira, New York Yankees - 19.84 seconds [video]
The only home run on the day to come in under twenty seconds. Luke Scott appeared to touch home at exactly 20.0 seconds, though. Curtis Granderson also went yard on Sunday, but his trot was drastically slowed by Derek Jeter (in the video, you can see Jeter looking behind him to check on Granderson's location).
