2011 Internships Available

Baseball Prospectus is looking for interns for 2011. We're looking for applicants for the spring (or immediately, if available now) and summer academic quarters. Before applying, please ensure that you can devote at least 10 hours per week to tasks including, but not limited to, interesting and rewarding baseball stuff. Internships are unpaid other than the famous free Baseball Prospectus Premium subscription for life, and you must receive college credit for your internship.

Baseball Prospectus interns have the opportunity to do great things. Editorial interns will immediately contribute to the operations of a site that publishes dozens of articles per week. Many interns have contributed bylined content during their internships, and others have worked extensively on Baseball Prospectus book projects. One of them even turned into Boy Wonder Ben Lindbergh. Technical interns can lead the production on complete durable products, as former BP super-intern Ben Murphy did with the Player Forecast Manager. Baseball Prospectus interns have gone on to work part- or full-time in the industry, and there are many former Baseball Prospectus interns in front offices around the major leagues.

EDITORIAL

Baseball Prospectus is looking for talented editorial interns. Strong candidates will offer many of the following:

English, History, or Journalism background.
An interest in writing and editing and an awareness of good grammar and proper punctuation.
Solid writing samples.
Interest in doing research, whether it be of an internet or library nature.
Familiarity with Excel, HTML, XML a plus.
Desktop publishing experience a plus.
Knowledge of and interest in baseball, of course.

TECHNICAL

Baseball Prospectus is looking for talented technical interns. Strong candidates will offer many of the following:

Graphic design, LaTeX and Web Style Sheet (CSS) experience.
Mobile device (primarily iPhone and Android) application development experience.
Facebook App or OpenSocial development experience.
Linux, Database, MySQL, and HTML/PHP/AJAX experience.
Experience in production of websites, applications, and utilities.

We want independently productive individuals. Send us your portfolio--samples of or links to the stuff you've done, and it doesn't have to be professional or about baseball.

As a former intern, I can fill you in a bit.

Everything is done from the comfort of your home. As far as a deadline though, you'd have to find out from someone a bit more in the know on that one.

As Brandon said, you'll work from the comfort of your own bunny slippers unless you're close enough to a BP staffer to get them their drycleaning.

No hard deadline, but we have a limited number of openings and we tend to get a lot of applicants every time we post something like this.

The college credit thing is relatively recent. BP didn't require college credit two or three years ago.
