September 8, 2010 BP PodcastEpisode 16: That's Not From A Slurpee MineIn this week's episode, Jason and I talk about struggling first place teams, what the Reds should do with Aroldis Chapman, and the pickle the Mariners have put themselves in by acquiring reliever Josh Lueke. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch then joins us for a fascinating, in-depth discussion of the Tony LaRussa/Colby Rasmus situation and the general state of the struggling Cardinals. For Pop Culture Moment, we are joined by Henry Owings of Chunklet to discuss their new book and how you can help, plus all the usual wackiness you've come to expect. We hope you enjoy. Note: We do alert you to the presence of the occasional adult language. Don't say we didn't warn you. Up And In Episode 16: "That's Not From A Slurpee Mine"

Regarding the use of Chapman in the playoffs, it's kind of forgotten now but Percival did earn all the saves for the 2002 Angels. Rodriguez was used for more innings and put up some amazing performances, but Percival wasn't a slouch in the one inning, close it down role. I think Jason's point still stands that Chapman's got to show enough control to make pitching in the higher leverage situations, or if he's brought in with runners on base. With Masset doing so well lately, the Reds do have some good problems to have in this regard.
