It's a short report today, as the Texas League was the only full-season circuit with the guts to go up against last night's All-Star game, while some half-season leagues took the night off as well. Of Note: Junior Arias, SS, Reds (Rookie-level AZL Reds): 2-for-3, HR (4), R, 3 RBI. Again, there is some very serious buzz on this kid; home runs in back-to-back games and batting .342/.373/.620. Corey Brown, OF, Athletics (Double-A Midland): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (6), 2 R, 2 RBI, K. Crashed out of Triple-A (.156/.207/.275) but still has impressive tools and has rebounded with .335/.401/.506 line in 46 Texas League games. Matt Carpenter, 3B, Cardinals (Double-A Springfield): 4-for-5, 2B, HR (5), 3 R, 2 RBI, BB. Tough to figure out as a good-hitting third baseman with only gap power; .314/.402/.467 in 55 Double-A games. Darrell Ceciliani, OF, Mets (Short-season Brooklyn): 3-for-5, 3 R, SB, K. 7-for-13 in last three games as .388/.439/.561 overall; true center fielder with excellent hitting skills, little power. Zach Dotson, LHP, Mets (Rookie-level GCL Mets): 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 7 K. Over-slot ($500K) 13th-rounder from '09 has 18 Ks in 16.1 innings and big groundball ratio; not crazy projection but very polished for age. Jedd Gyorko, 3B, Padres (Short-season Eugene): 2-for-4, RBI. Batting .360/.400/.596 in 21 pro games; defensive reports aren't as good. Kolbrin Vitek, 3B, Red Sox (Short-season Lowell): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (1), 2 R, 4 RBI, K. First pro home run for first-round pick; hitting .277/.398/.398, but 26 strikeouts in 83 at-bats might be the biggest surprise in his line.
