June 25, 2010 BP UnfilteredExpanding the GameFolks, I know it isn't SOP to make fundraising announcements here, but this is a baseball-related cause and this is a baseball site, so here's what's going on. If you're in the Windy City and interested in the extension of the game to Africa, I'd encourage you to check out a fundraiser tomorrow evening organized under the auspices of the African Baseball Network. At $100 per person or $150 per couple, it's not a frivolous investment, but it is an opportunity to participate in an event that should help go a long way towards helping a six-country circuit get started. It's going to be held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. I've met AJ, the man who's been working with people within MLB, and my hope is that this leads to the kind of international extension of the game that can do some good there as well as here. Here's the info, drawn from the organization's Facebook announcement of the event:
"Join Ozzie Guillen, Derrek Lee and many more to support the 'Pitch to Win' Celebration, a historic event that will mark the beginning of a new era in the world of baseball. Help bring baseball to Africa. This event will feature Cocktails, Reception, and a Silent Auction. Great Fun, Fabulous Food, Friends New & Old.
