  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee (neck) took batting practice on Wednesday and is expected to make a start this weekend.
  • An MRI taken Wednesday afternoon on Cardinals C Yadier Molina's right knee showed no structural damage.
  • Pirates C Michael McKenry underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper was diagnosed with a hip spasm.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was diagnosed with a sprained right middle finger after an X-ray came back clean.
  • Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (heel) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday.
  • Mets C John Buck will be placed on paternity leave soon.
  • MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that Dodgers OF Matt Kemp's sprained left ankle is healing slower than expected and he could be out until September.

  • Giants manager Bruce Bochy wouldn't commit to using SP Barry Zito for his scheduled start on Sunday in Tampa.
  • RP Zeke Spruill will make a spot start for the Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Rangers.
  • Mets manager Terry Collins said the club could use SP Zack Wheeler as a reliever for the final couple weeks of the season in order to limit his innings.
  • Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have made an offer to Nationals C Kelly Shoppach.

American League:

  • Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox will call up 3B Brock Holt to replace Jose Iglesias for the time being.
  • Major League Baseball will suspend Alex Rodriguez for life if he doesn't reach a settlement in connection with the Biogenesis saga, reports Craig Calcaterra of HardballTalk.
  • SP Bud Norris will make his Orioles' debut on Thursday against the Astros.
  • Red Sox SP Brandon Workman has been moved to the bullpen.
