For those of you unfamiliar with the #streameroftheday process, I recommend one starting pitcher per day who is owned in fewer than 10% of leagues (lower than your typical standards) and post it on Twitter at @dynastyguru. And this Friday post is where I stand in front of the firing squad, fully accountable for these recommendations. I ran a longer introduction in my first post of the season, explaining why my ownership limit is much lower than most others out there, but essentially it's to be helpful in deeper mixed leagues. If you want to read the whole thing, the link is here. With the pleasantries out of the way, let's jump into the action.

Here were the details for the last seven days:

Date Pitcher Opp IP ER H BB K Dec
5/3/13 Jonathan Pettibone HOU 6 1/3 1 5 0 3 Win
5/4/13 Matt Magill SF 1 1/3 5 6 4 2 ND
5/5/13 Kevin Slowey PHI 7 0 2 2 7 Win
5/6/13 Andrew Cashner MIA 7 1/3 0 4 3 4 Win
5/7/13 J.A. Happ TB 1 1/3 4 5 1 0 ND
5/8/13 Allen Webster MIN 1 2/3 8 6 3 2 Loss
5/9/13 Dillon Gee PIT 5 1 5 2 3 ND

This was definitely the most schizophrenic week I've had since I started doing this whole nonsense. The first six starts of the week consisted of three excellent starts and three disaster starts. And when I mean disaster starts, I'm not joking–none of the magnetic trio of Matt Magill, J.A. Happ or Allen Webster even made it out of the second inning, while combining to give up 17 runs. On the other hand, the good three starts resulted in three wins, a 0.44 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. Unfortunately for me, the bad was more than enough to completely swallow up the good. And things are going to start getting a little more dicey, as far as alternatives go, in the near future, as two of my stalwarts have either lost or are about to lose their eligibility for this designation (Kevin Slowey and Andrew Cashner).

And here are my overall numbers for both the week and the season:

  Wins Win% IP ERA WHIP K K/9
Week 3 43% 30 5.70 1.60 21 6.30
Season 14 39% 200 2/3 5.07 1.41 139 6.23

I'm not going to lie. With the exception of wins, this has been an extremely disappointing season so far for my streamer picks, but the season is still young. There is plenty of time to move these ratios in the right direction, and it's all going to start with Dan Straily tonight at Safeco.

See you again next week.

Would you drop Cashner to pick up Straily for tonight in a H2H league, or is Cashner worth holding onto at this point? It appears that Cashner won't be starting this weekend in Tampa, and will pitch again on Tuesday instead.

In a shallower league, where you could really use an additional start this week, I don't have a problem with that. Like Cash better for the rest of the year, but he's still a high injury risk and Straily has been better than his stats let on.

Watched Allen Webster 's short start. The ABs he survived, he flashed big time slider and smart sequencing. Very unfortunate that he couldn't pitch well after behind the count and/or without fastball command.
