  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out nine in the win.
  • Nationals SP Ross Detwiler allowed two earned runs over six innings.
  • Nationals 1B Adam LaRoche went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Cardinals RP Edward Mujica picked up his 3rd save of the season in 3 tries

Pirates – 2 at 0 – Phillies

  • Pirates SP Jeff Locke spun six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six.
  • Phillies SP Cole Hamels remained winless despite a superb start, as he allowed two runs while striking out six over eight frames.
  • Pirates 1B Gaby Sanchez doubled and launched a solo homer.
Dodgers – 7 at 2 – Mets

Brewers – 6 at 3 – Padres

  • Brewers RP Jim Henderson recorded his fifth save striking out two, walking one, without allowing a hit or run scored.
  • Brewers RP John Axford worked a hitless eighth inning for his fourth hold in his last five appearances.
  • Padres SP Clayton Richard was pulled after allowing six runs in 1 2/3 innings.
  • Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks went 0-for-3, striking out twice and walking once.
  • Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo allowed three in runs in the first two innings, but settled down and held the Padres scoreless for the next five innings to earn his second win of the season in as many starts.

  • Cubs RP Kevin Gregg recorded his first save, striking out two to preserve a 10-inning win.
  • Reds OF Shin-Soo Choo went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Cubs SP Carlos Villanueva allowed just two runs in 8 1/3 innings of a no-decision.
  • Reds SP Tony Cingrani allowed two runs over seven innings.
Diamondbacks – 5 at 4 – Giants

  • Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt had a two-run homer and an RBI double in 11 innings.
  • Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin surrendered two runs in 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz blew his third save by giving up a two-run homer to Brandon Belt in the ninth inning.
  • Giants SP Matt Cain yielded four runs — three earned — in six innings in a no-decision.
  • After sitting out the first eight innings, Giants 1B Brandon Belt hit a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth.

  • Yankees OF Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera allowed a solo home run but closed out the Rays for his sixth save of the season.
  • Yankees SP Phil Hughes took a tough no-decision on Tuesday, allowing two runs in seven innings as the Yankees beat the Rays.
  • Rays SP David Price allowed three runs in eight innings.
Athletics – 13 at 0 – Red Sox

  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Athletics SP Bartolo Colon tossed seven scoreless innings on just three hits and a walk while striking out seven.
  • Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves was lit up for eight runs – seven earned – on seven hits and four walks over just 3 1/3 innings.
  • Athletics OF Seth Smith belted a two-run homer and also added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

  • The Astros will recall OF Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday's game.
  • Astros placed OF Justin Maxwell on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand.
  • The Red Sox will recall RP Daniel Bard prior to Wednesday's game.
  • Tigers purchased the contract of RHP Jose Valverde from High-A Lakeland.
  • Angels optioned INF Thomas Field to Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • Mariners placed OF Franklin Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
  • Red Sox SP John Lackey (biceps) could be activated from the disabled list to start Sunday against the Astros.
  • Blue Jays transferred SS Jose Reyes from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
  • Blue Jays claimed LHP Aaron Laffey off waivers from the Mets.
  • The Orioles are expected to recall right-hander Josh Stinson from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

National League:

  • Mets SP Jon Niese (leg) is expected to be fine for his next start.
  • Reds RP Sean Marshall (shoulder) will make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
  • Giants SP Eric Surkamp (elbow) has been playing long-toss and will be ready to throw a bullpen session soon.
  • Rockies SP Jhoulys Chacin (back) expects to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on May 5.
  • Dodgers RP Chris Capuano (calf) will throw a bullpen session either Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (oblique) was cleared to take pregame batting practice and throw on Tuesday.
  • Phillies OF Delmon Young (ankle) will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
  • Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) has been cleared to make his debut on Saturday against the Phillies.
American League:
  • Rangers 1B Jeff Baker has been diagnosed with a bruised left knee.
  • Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat) has been scratched from his rehab start with Double-A Tennessee on Wednesday due to a "dead arm."
  • Astros OF Justin Maxwell left Tuesday's game after the fourth inning after being hit on the left hand by a pitch.
  • SP Kyle Lohse (finger) remains optimistic about making his next start on Sunday, though Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he could be pushed back "a day or two days."
  • Rangers SP Matt Harrison underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair a herniated disk in his lower back.
  • Angels SS Erick Aybar (heel) will not be ready to be activated from the disabled list on Thursday.
  • Angels RP Sean Burnett won't be available until at least Thursday due to some soreness in his forearm.
  • Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) will undergo an MRI when the Mariners return home on Thursday.
  • Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) is not expected to return to the Yankees' starting lineup until Thursday.
  • Orioles RP Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) tossed four innings Tuesday afternoon in an extended spring training game.
  • Orioles SP Dylan Bundy will have his sore right elbow and forearm examined this week by Dr. James Andrews.

Is Robbie Erlin coming up to be a long reliever or will he start on Friday? thanks.

It looks like he'll start in the pen, most likely in the long relief role. If he pitches well he could gain an increased role, possibly a starting spot.
